The Jackery Solar Generator 5000 Plus (model JE-5000A) is a large, expandable battery system for backing up a whole home. It stores 5,040Wh in a LiFePO4 battery and outputs up to 7,200W at either 120V or 240V. Solar panels are optional and sold separately.
What 5,040Wh and 7,200W mean
Capacity is the energy stored; output is how much power can flow at one time. Jackery gives 5,040Wh and 7,200W, expandable to 14,400W and 60kWh with additional units. As a rough guide, a typical home uses much more than 5kWh in a day if it runs heating, cooling and cooking, so one unit suits essential circuits, while expansion extends the runtime. Jackery says one unit can power a home for over a day on average usage, about seven days at 30kWh and up to 15 days at 60kWh. Your own results depend on what you run.
Why 120V/240V matters
North American homes use 120V for most outlets and 240V for large appliances such as dryers, ovens and well pumps. A dual-voltage unit can feed both, which smaller power stations cannot. Jackery says it can run dryers, water pumps and ovens and recharge RVs. Connecting it to a home's wiring should be done by a qualified electrician, following local codes and the manual.
Online UPS mode
Jackery lists 0ms response in Online UPS mode. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) switches to battery so quickly that sensitive equipment, such as computers, Wi-Fi gear or an aquarium pump, keeps running through an outage.
App control and energy management
The Jackery App lets you monitor the unit and change charge and discharge settings over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Jackery also describes automatic off-peak charging and peak shaving when used with its smart transfer switch, which charges the battery when grid demand is low and draws on it when demand is high.
Quiet, fuel-free operation
Jackery says charging runs below 30 dB and that the unit produces no emissions, unlike fuel generators. Even so, batteries of this size should be placed in a dry, ventilated area, as the manual directs.
Size and weight
It measures 16.5 x 15.5 x 25.0 inches (about 42 x 39 x 64 cm) and weighs 132 lb (about 60 kg). It is a unit you position and leave in place, not one you carry around.
Who it suits
It suits homeowners in outage-prone areas, people with heavy 240V loads, and RV owners wanting a large mobile supply. Anyone with modest needs may find a smaller unit sufficient.
What to check before you buy
- Load planning: add up the starting and running watts of what you want to power.
- Voltage: confirm which appliances need 240V.
- Installation: home integration needs a qualified electrician, and permits may apply.
- Expansion: check how additional batteries connect and what accessories they need.
- Solar: panels are optional, so check compatibility and the panel input limits.
- Weight and placement: plan where a 132 lb unit will sit and how it will get there.
