The Jackery Explorer 240 v2 is a small portable power station that stores 256Wh in a LiFePO4 battery. It has a 300W AC outlet, USB-C ports and a built-in light, making it a compact option for camping, travel and short backup needs. Here is what the specifications mean and what it can run.
What 256Wh and 300W mean
Two numbers describe a power station. Capacity, in watt-hours, is how much energy it holds: 256Wh. Output, in watts, is how much it can deliver at once: 300W of AC here. As a rough guide, a 50W device could run for a little under five hours at 256Wh once conversion losses are accounted for. Phones, laptops, lights, small fans and camera batteries fit well. Hair dryers, kettles and space heaters draw much more than 300W and won't run on this unit.
LiFePO4 battery life
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries are typically chosen for long cycle life and stable behaviour. Jackery says the Explorer 240 v2 offers 10 years of battery life and holds up after 3,000 charge cycles. It lists the unit at 6.6 lb, measuring 9.1 x 6.0 x 6.6 inches, although one line in the listing gives 7.7 lb, so confirm the weight if it matters to you.
Ports
There is a 100W power-delivery USB-C port, which can charge a laptop or phone directly without a charger brick. Several ports allow multiple devices to be charged at once. A built-in camping light can double as emergency lighting.
Charging times
Jackery states several times: - About 1 hour for a full charge using fast charging, which is activated through the app. - About 2 hours from 0% to 100% from a wall outlet. - About 3 hours with 100W solar panels.
The brand notes that a DC8020 to USB-C adapter, which is not included, is needed to use Jackery 100W and 200W solar panels.
UPS and safety features
Jackery describes the unit as UL certified and says its solar panels are verified by TÜV SÜD. It lists a rapid UPS function with a 20ms switchover, which can help when powering a desktop computer or other equipment. As with all battery products, follow the manual on charging, ventilation and temperature, and don't use damaged cables.
App control
Through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, the app shows status including remaining battery. You can adjust settings such as auto turn-off and battery-saving mode.
What's in the box
The set includes the power station, a user manual and an AC cable. Jackery lists five years of customer support.
Who it suits
It suits campers and road-trippers, remote workers who need to keep a laptop going, and households wanting a small outage kit for phones, lights and a router.
What to check before you buy
- Your devices' wattage: add up what you plan to run at once and keep it under 300W.
- Runtime: divide 256Wh by the device's wattage, then allow for losses.
- Solar: check panel compatibility and the adapter you may need.
- Medical or critical equipment: it may not suit these; confirm requirements with the equipment's maker.
- Delivery: the listing says an actual street address is needed.
- Storage: follow the manual on storing it partly charged and in moderate temperatures.
