The eufy Permanent Outdoor Lights S4 (model T8L04) are a 150 ft strip of colour-changing LEDs meant to stay on the house all year. Instead of hanging and taking down seasonal lights, you install one strip along the roofline and change the look from an app. Here is what the specs mean and what to check before planning a layout.
Three jobs in one strip
eufy describes the S4 as lighting for everyday use, holidays and security. The strip includes a radar sensor with 120° coverage and a 12 m range, which lets the lights respond to movement and follow it with an animated effect. For security use, you can set alerts that flash the lights as a warning. Radar sensing of this kind detects movement without relying on a camera image, so it's a different tool from a security camera.
What the LED design adds
Each point uses three kinds of LED: RGB for colour, plus warm white and cool white. eufy rates the colour temperature range at 1500K to 9000K. Adding dedicated white LEDs typically gives cleaner whites and softer pastels than mixing white from red, green and blue alone. The brand says this design is up to 200% brighter.
eufy also quotes 16-bit colour depth, which it puts at up to 281 trillion shades, and an independent control chip for each light point. In practice, finer colour steps mean smoother fades and less visible banding when the light moves between shades. The LED spacing is listed as 14.5 inches.
Presets, voice and music
The app offers 120 presets, from calm everyday scenes to Halloween and Christmas effects. eufy also lists an AI voice feature: you describe the mood you want and the system generates a matching effect. A music mode analyses audio in real time so the lights move with the rhythm.
Smart home and camera links
The lights support the Matter protocol, so they can work with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. They can also be linked to eufy cameras, video doorbells and video smart locks, so motion detected by those devices triggers a lighting effect. eufy notes that human detection requires a HomeBase 3.
Cutting, extending and weather protection
The strip can be cut to fit different roof shapes. eufy sets limits: the strip's total length should not exceed 200 ft (60 m), and with an extension cable the total should not exceed 232 ft (70 m). The S4 isn't compatible with eufy's E22 extension cable or lights.
It is protected to IP67. In general, that means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion, which is more than rain and splashes demand. eufy says the lights are designed for year-round outdoor use.
Who they suit
They suit people who put up seasonal lights every year and would rather install once, those who want accent lighting along eaves, and homes already using Matter or eufy devices.
What to check before you buy
- Your roofline: measure the run you want to light and compare it with the 150 ft supplied and the 200 ft limit.
- Mounting surface: check the manual for how the strip attaches to your siding, trim or soffit.
- Compatibility: the S4 does not work with the E22 extension cable or lights.
- Smart home setup: confirm your platform supports Matter, and that any camera or doorbell links need the hardware eufy names.
- Power and wiring: follow the manual and local electrical codes for outdoor connections.
- Cutting points: check where the strip may be cut so you don't remove working sections.
