The DEWENWILS T40W is a WiFi-enabled timer built for heavy electrical loads such as pool pumps. It switches the connected device on and off on a schedule, and you can also control it from a phone or by voice. It is hardwired rather than plugged in, so it replaces a mechanical timer in the circuit.
What it controls
The timer is rated for up to 40 amps at 120-277 VAC and a 2 HP load. DEWENWILS lists pool pumps, pool filters, spas, water heaters, irrigation systems and landscape lighting as suitable loads. Pool pumps and similar motors draw a lot of current, particularly when they start, which is why the listed capacity matters more than it would for a lamp.
Scheduling options
There are three timing modes: programmable, random and countdown. In programmable mode you can set up to 15 ON/OFF settings, so you can run a pump in several windows a day. Random mode varies switching times, which is a feature more often used for lights when no one is home. Countdown runs the device for a set period and then stops it. DEWENWILS says the schedules help avoid a device running all night after someone forgets to switch it off.
WiFi, app and voice control
The timer works with the DEWENWILS app and the Smart Life app, and with Alexa and Google Assistant. The brand says no hub is required and that you can switch devices from anywhere on your phone. The listing notes that it supports 2.4 GHz WiFi only, a common limit for smart devices, so a router that only broadcasts 5 GHz will not work. Check that your router signal reaches the timer's location, since it may sit far from the house.
Wiring and mounting
DEWENWILS says the timer joins your existing router without extra setup. Two jumper wires are included to help with wiring, and a hanging point at the top lets you mount it on a wall. Wiring a 40-amp, 120-277V device is electrical work. Follow local codes and the manual, and use a qualified electrician if you are not experienced with it.
Weather resistance
A sealed cover and a waterproof pad protect the unit for outdoor or indoor use. DEWENWILS gives an operating range of -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C). The box measures about 4.7 x 6.7 x 7.9 inches and weighs roughly 0.5 lb. The brand also lists a UL listing.
Who it suits
It suits pool owners who want a pump to follow a schedule and be checked or switched from a phone, and anyone controlling a heavy outdoor load such as an irrigation pump or a spa heater. It may be more than you need for a small light circuit.
What to check before you buy
- Voltage and load: confirm your equipment's voltage, amperage and horsepower against the 40 A / 2 HP limits.
- Wiring type: check that the wiring layout in the manual matches your setup.
- WiFi: you need 2.4 GHz coverage where the timer is mounted.
- Installation: electrical work should follow local codes; consider an electrician.
- Apps and assistants: confirm the app and voice assistant you use are supported.
- Pump needs: some pool equipment has its own run-time guidance; check the pump's manual.
