The DC HOUSE ECO-LFP48100 is a 48V, 100Ah lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery meant to replace the bank of lead-acid batteries in a golf cart. It comes with a 48V 18A charger and a built-in battery management system. Here is what the specs mean and what to confirm before swapping one in.

One battery instead of six

Many golf carts run on six 8V lead-acid batteries wired in series. DC HOUSE says this single 48V pack replaces that set, so it needs to be installed once, without the wiring between several batteries. The brand adds that the internal cells are held in place with metal clips, which it says helps keep them steady. It rates the service life at 4,000 cycles, which it puts at about eight times that of lead-acid.

What 48V, 100Ah and 5.12kWh tell you

Voltage matches the cart's system, and amp-hours describe capacity. Multiply them together and you get roughly 5.12 kWh of stored energy, the figure the brand lists. DC HOUSE says that translates to a range of 40 to 56 miles and 4 to 9 rounds of 18 holes. Real range depends on terrain, load, speed and the cart itself, so treat these as the brand's estimates.

The 200A BMS

A battery management system (BMS) watches the cells and limits current, voltage and temperature. This one is rated at 200A continuous, with a peak of 700A for one second. DC HOUSE says that gives enough pull for slopes of about 20 degrees. It also describes low-temperature protection: charging is cut off below 19.4°F, discharging below -4°F, and charging resumes once the pack warms to 32°F. In general, lithium packs shouldn't be charged below freezing, so keep the battery above 32°F when charging, as the brand advises.

Monitoring by app or screen

The battery has Bluetooth, and there are two ways to see what it's doing: a mobile app or a Bluetooth LCD screen (2.76 x 1.77 x 0.98 inches). Both show details such as charge percentage, voltage, current and capacity. DC HOUSE notes that the battery can connect to only one device at a time, so the app has to be disconnected before the LCD monitor is used.

The charger

The included charger delivers 48V at 18A. DC HOUSE says it takes the 100Ah pack from empty to full in about 5.5 hours and supports charging from 0V. The charging cable is 16.4 ft (5 m). The brand says the charge is complete when the green light stays on and stops flashing.

Other uses and delivery

Besides Yamaha, Club Car and EZ-GO carts, the listing names lawnmowers, RVs, trolling motors, boats and off-grid systems as 48V applications. The pack measures about 10.6 x 20.5 x 8.6 inches and weighs 82.9 lb (about 37.6 kg). Because of the weight, the battery and charger ship in two packages, so one may arrive before the other.

What to check before you buy

  • Fit: measure your battery tray against 10.6 x 20.5 x 8.6 inches, and check the cart's connectors and wiring.
  • Cart voltage: confirm that your cart is a 48V system.
  • Cart condition: DC HOUSE advises checking that an older cart is in good working order and keeping within its load range.
  • Climate: if you use it in winter, plan where you will charge it so it stays above 32°F.
  • Weight: at nearly 83 lb, plan for two people or lifting gear when installing.
  • Installation: follow the manual and, if you're unsure, have a qualified technician do the work.

The short version

  • A 48V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery, about 5.12kWh, with a 200A BMS and 700A peak.
  • Replaces a set of six 8V lead-acid batteries with one pack.
  • Bluetooth app and LCD monitor, though not at the same time.
  • 18A charger included, rated at about 5.5 hours for a full charge.
  • Low-temperature cut-offs for charging and discharging; weighs 82.9 lb.
