The VEVOR HZB-45 is a freestanding ice maker for light commercial use. VEVOR rates it at up to 100 lb of ice cubes per day, with a 33 lb storage bin. It is aimed at small bars, cafés, offices and busy homes that go through more ice than a freezer tray or a fridge ice maker can supply.

What the 100 lb a day figure means

VEVOR gives the daily output as up to 100 lb over 24 hours, measured at ambient temperatures between 50 and 100.4°F (10 to 38°C). Ice makers typically produce less when the room is warm, so the figure is best read as a ceiling. The machine makes ice in batches: the listing says the 45 ice trays, or cubes per cycle, are ready in as little as 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the ice thickness setting.

Storage and insulation

The bin holds 33 lb. Because output is higher than storage, the bin fills well before the day is out, and the machine then waits until ice is taken. VEVOR says the cyclopentane insulation, at least 20 mm thick, keeps ice frozen for 6 to 8 hours when the machine is not running. In practice, insulation slows melting but does not stop it, and meltwater is normally drained away.

Control panel

The panel has an LED digital display, mechanical buttons and an indicator light that shows the machine's status. You can make the cubes thicker or thinner by lengthening or shortening the ice-making time. Thicker cubes melt more slowly in a drink, while thinner ones are made faster.

Self-cleaning

Pressing and holding the clean button starts the automatic self-cleaning function, according to VEVOR. Any ice machine needs regular cleaning, and manuals typically also describe descaling to remove mineral build-up, depending on your water. Follow the manual for the recommended cleaners and schedule.

Noise and cooling

A compressor-based machine like this one cools in a way similar to a refrigerator. VEVOR describes the operation as quiet. Compressor and water sounds are still normal, so consider where it will sit.

Size, weight and placement

It measures about 15.7 x 17.6 x 31.4 inches (40 x 45 x 80 cm) and weighs 62.4 lb (about 28 kg). Machines of this type usually need a water supply, a drain or some way of handling meltwater, a nearby power outlet and some clear space around the vents. The manual gives the exact clearances and connections.

Who it suits

It suits small food and drink businesses, offices with a break room, and households that entertain often or need ice for storing food and drinks. For very high demand, a larger machine would be needed.

What to check before you buy

  • Daily need: estimate the ice you use, and remember output falls in warm rooms.
  • Space: measure the location, including clearance for airflow and doors.
  • Water and drainage: check the supply, drain and any water filter the manual recommends.
  • Power: confirm the electrical requirements against the outlet you plan to use.
  • Upkeep: plan for regular cleaning and descaling.
  • Commercial use: if it is for a business, check local food-service rules.
