The VEVOR masticating juicer is a slow juicer that crushes and presses fruit and vegetables rather than shredding them at high speed. It is built for people who juice at home and want a tall, upright machine that separates juice from pulp into two containers.

What "masticating" means

A masticating, or cold press, juicer turns a slowly rotating auger inside a screen. The produce is crushed and squeezed against the screen, and juice runs out one side while pulp is pushed out the other. Centrifugal juicers use a fast spinning blade instead. Slow juicers are typically quieter and tend to handle leafy greens better, though they usually take longer per glass.

VEVOR gives the motor as 200W turning at 60 RPM. That low speed is what the brand means by high torque and low speed.

The feed chute and preparation

The chute is 2.6 inches (65 mm) wide, so smaller fruit can go in with little cutting. VEVOR names apples, pears, strawberries, carrots and onions as examples. It gives maximum piece sizes of about 5 x 2 cm for strips and 3 x 3 cm for chunks, so larger produce needs to be cut to size. Check the manual for how to feed harder items.

Pulp separation and containers

The juicer separates the pulp, which VEVOR says gives a smooth, fine-textured juice. It comes with a 27 oz (800 ml) juice cup and a 20 oz (600 ml) pulp cup. A larger batch means emptying the pulp cup partway through.

Running time

VEVOR advises using the machine for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time. It has automatic overheat protection that shuts the juicer off, and a 10 to 30 minute cool-down is needed before reuse. That is fine for a few glasses, but it matters if you plan to juice a lot at once.

Cleaning

The parts come apart and can be washed with water or in a dishwasher. A brush is supplied for cleaning the filter screen, and the base can be wiped with a cloth. Cleaning soon after juicing is easier, since pulp dries onto the screen. Cleaning is often the main chore with any juicer, so it helps to look closely at how many parts there are.

Build and size

The parts are food-grade PP and ABS plastic, and a secure lock is designed to stop juice leaking while it runs. The machine measures 7.0 x 5.8 x 17.4 inches (about 18 x 15 x 44 cm) and weighs 5.7 lb (about 2.6 kg), so it is easy to move and fits under most cupboards at a lower height.

Who it suits

It suits home users who juice a few times a week, enjoy a smoother result with less foam, and don't mind a slower process. Those wanting very large volumes, or the fastest possible juice, may find a different type more suitable.

What to check before you buy

  • Preparation: be ready to cut larger produce to fit the chute.
  • Volume: the juice cup holds 800 ml and the pulp cup 600 ml.
  • Duty cycle: the 20-minute limit and cool-down period.
  • Cleaning: decide whether you will hand-wash or use a dishwasher.
  • Space: check the 17.4 inch height against your counter and cupboard.
  • Variant: the listing is for the standard version; confirm which version you are buying.
