The PETKIT Purobot Max 3 is an automatic litter box that sweeps waste into a sealed compartment after each visit. PETKIT presents it as an upgrade on the PuraMax 2, with a wider entrance, more sensors and an odour eliminator included in the box. It is meant for households that want less daily scooping.
Size and entry
The opening is 10.5 inches wide, with a low threshold, and the interior holds 76 litres. PETKIT says this suits cats of 3.3 to 22 lbs, including larger cats, seniors, short-legged cats and cats with mobility difficulties. It is not intended for kittens or other pets under six months. The unit itself measures about 25 x 21.3 x 21.7 inches and weighs 31.3 lbs, so it needs a fair amount of floor space.
How the automatic cleaning works
After each use, the litter is sifted and waste goes into a sealed 7L waste bin. PETKIT describes four modes, set from your phone: auto, auxiliary landfill covering, timer and empty. It says the bin lasts up to 15 days between bag changes, depending on use, and works with all kinds of clumping litter. Replacing the waste bag is the regular job left to you.
Odour control
PETKIT lists a multi-layer approach: a semi-enclosed design, waste moved straight to the sealed compartment, and the N50 2.0 odour eliminator. The listing notes that the K4 Breezy Smart Odor Eliminator is not included.
Safety features as listed
PETKIT describes the following:
- a half-gear design that keeps the opening open during operation;
- a side-by-side drum with no overlapping gaps, to avoid pinching;
- seven hall sensors, four weight sensors and one proximity sensor, with the machine stopping when a cat approaches.
As with any automatic appliance, follow the user manual, and introduce a cat to it gradually.
Leak control and cleaning
The seamless ShieldBase gives a 360-degree seal, and the Max Litter Mat has a flexible edge that PETKIT says stays in place. PETKIT says the third-generation mat's anti-stick material limits litter clinging to the bottom, and that the base is waterproof and scratch-resistant, so wiping it down is easier.
App control
The unit connects over 2.4 GHz WiFi to the PETKIT app, where you can set modes and view usage records. The app identifies each cat by weight and records visit frequency and duration, which is useful for multi-cat households that want to see each cat's pattern.
In the box
The N50 2.0 odour eliminator, 18 trash bags, a magnetic litter remover, a clay litter sifter (P99023), a tofu litter sifter (P99022), manual, decorative stickers and a US adapter. PETKIT lists two-year after-sales coverage.
What to check before you buy
- Space: measure for a 25 x 21.3 x 21.7-inch unit and a nearby outlet.
- Floor: PETKIT advises a flat floor, not carpet or mats, which may interfere with the sensors, and the entrance must stay clear.
- WiFi: it supports 2.4 GHz networks.
- Cat size and age: check your cat's weight is within 3.3 to 22 lbs and over six months old.
- Litter: confirm your litter type is covered; PETKIT lists clumping litter and includes a tofu litter sifter.
- Upkeep: plan on replacing bags and wiping the unit regularly, plus any odour eliminator refills.
