The Midea MLH25N7BWW is a compact front-load washing machine, 24 inches wide with a 2.5 cubic foot drum. It is meant for places where a full-size washer won't fit, such as an apartment bathroom, a dorm, an RV or a closet. Here is what its features mean and what to confirm before choosing a spot for it.

Size and where it fits

Midea lists the machine at about 22.5 x 23.5 x 33.5 inches (roughly 57 x 60 x 85 cm). The 24-inch width is the standard "compact" laundry size, and the design is described as stackable, so a matching compact dryer can usually sit on top using a stacking kit. Check the manual for the right kit and installation steps.

A 2.5 cu ft drum holds less than a conventional 4 to 5 cu ft machine, so larger loads such as bulky bedding may need to be split.

Steam pre-treatment

Midea says the steam function penetrates fabric fibres to loosen stains while staying gentle on clothing. In general, steam in a washer works by warming and moistening fabric before or during the wash, which helps detergent work on soiled areas. Results depend on the fabric and the stain, so follow the care label.

Cold wash cycle

The cold wash cycle is intended to reduce colour fading and shrinking, and Midea notes it also saves energy since the water isn't heated. Many modern detergents are formulated for cold water, which is worth checking on the bottle.

Internal heater

For tougher soiling, an internal heater brings the water up to 152°F (about 67°C), according to Midea. Having a heater inside the machine means the temperature doesn't depend on your home's hot water supply, which can matter in an RV or a small flat.

Brushless inverter motor

Midea fits its Brushless Inverter Motor, which it describes as quieter and more efficient, with a 10-year warranty. A brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear out, and inverter control adjusts motor speed smoothly rather than switching on and off. Read the warranty terms for what exactly is covered.

Controls and drum

The washer has a stainless steel inner tub, several wash programs, a see-through lid and an LED display.

Setting it up

Two steps matter on a new machine. First, remove the transport bolts with a spanner and cover the holes with the supplied plugs, otherwise the washer can move around while running; keep the bolts for future moves. Second, Midea reminds users to remove the drain plug before connecting the drain hose. Follow the manual for water supply, drainage, levelling and electrical connection.

Who it suits

It suits people with limited space, renters who want in-home laundry, students, and RV or small-flat owners who don't want to use a shared laundry room.

What to check before you buy

  • Space: measure the area, including door swing and room for hoses.
  • Connections: confirm you have water supply, a drain and a suitable outlet nearby.
  • Load size: 2.5 cu ft suits smaller loads; consider your usual wash.
  • Stacking: if you plan to add a dryer, check which stacking kit fits.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for cleaning the door seal and filter.
