The Midea MDEC002F5 is an air fryer oven with two cooking levels in one body: an upper 6-quart basket and a lower 5-quart baking pan, for 11 quarts in total. Midea says the stacked layout takes up a smaller footprint than two separate machines. It also has eight cooking functions, a clear window and Wi-Fi control. Here is what those features mean.
The double-decker design
Most dual-basket air fryers place two drawers side by side. Midea stacks them instead. The upper basket suits foods that benefit from air circulating all round, such as fries or nuggets. The lower pan is flatter and suits pizza, bread and similar items. Because the two zones are separate, you can cook two different dishes without mixing flavours.
The listed dimensions are 23.6 x 23.6 x 7.1 inches and the weight is 23.5 lb. Measure your counter and the height under cupboards before buying, and allow space around the appliance for ventilation, as the manual describes.
Three heating tubes
The cavity has three heating tubes at the top, middle and bottom. Midea says this allows precise temperature control and even cooking for each zone. In an air fryer, a heating element and a fan circulate hot air quickly around the food, which gives a crisp outside with little or no added oil. Having elements at several levels is meant to heat both zones without the lower one lagging.
Eight functions
The eight preset menus are air fry, grill, dehydrate, bake, roast, broil, reheat and toast. Dehydrating uses low heat over a long time to dry fruit or herbs. Reheating suits leftovers that would turn soft in a microwave. The window lets you check on cooking without opening the unit and letting heat escape.
Smart Sync Finish
Smart Sync Finish is Midea's feature for finishing two different dishes at the same time. When foods need different times and temperatures, the appliance adjusts so both are ready together. Without it, you would time each dish and start the longer one first. Midea says this means each dish is served hot and fresh in minimum cooking time.
Wi-Fi and the MSmart app
The air fryer connects over Wi-Fi to the MSmart app, which Midea says includes more than 50 recipes and lets you monitor and control cooking from your phone. The listing also mentions that it works with Alexa. App features rely on your home network and phone, so check that your router works with the app. The appliance can usually also be used from its own controls.
Capacity in practice
Eleven quarts is a large total, but the two zones are not interchangeable. A 6-quart basket generally suits a family-sized portion of fries or wings. The lower pan fits a small pizza or a tray of baked goods. Check the pan's inner dimensions against the dishes you cook most.
Who it suits
It suits families that cook two items at once and want to free up counter space, and people who like app recipes. It is a bulky appliance, so it may be too large for small kitchens.
What to check before you buy
- Counter space and weight: it is about 23.6 inches square and 23.5 lb.
- Cooking zones: check whether the upper basket and lower pan suit your usual meals.
- Power: large air fryers draw significant power; use a suitable outlet and follow the manual.
- Wi-Fi and Alexa: confirm they work with your network and devices if you want those features.
- Cleaning: check which parts are removable and dishwasher-safe.
- Ventilation: leave space around it while it runs, as the manual says.
