The Levoit Vital Pet Pro (model LAP-P501S) is a smart air purifier built for homes with pets. It combines a filter for airborne dust and dander with a large activated carbon bed aimed at pet odours, plus a pre-filter designed to cope with hair. Levoit says it suits large rooms.

Odour and filtration

The purifier uses a 3-stage filtration system. Levoit says it contains 140 g of activated carbon for odours, including dog odours and litter box smells. Activated carbon is porous and traps many odour molecules, which a particle filter alone doesn't. For its HEPA stage, Levoit states 99.97% efficiency for particles down to 0.3 microns, tested by an independent lab in sleep mode.

Dealing with pet hair

An auto-clean pre-filter removes up to 95% of captured pet hair, which Levoit says reduces buildup. That figure comes from a test with 0.2 g of cat fur. A wide U-shaped air inlet is designed to catch up to 99% of loose hair within 1.7 inches of the inlet. Levoit notes the purifier only captures hair circulating in the air; it won't pick up settled hair on floors or surfaces, so you still need a vacuum.

Sensors and the app

Dual sensors, a TVOC sensor and a PM2.5 sensor, track changes in indoor air, including odours, smoke, dander and fine dust, and adjust purification automatically. Through the VeSync app you can use remote control, scheduling and Pet Plus mode. A display lock prevents accidental changes, and algorithm-based filter life tracking tells you when to swap the filter.

Coverage and noise

Levoit gives a CADR of 148 CFM. CADR, the clean air delivery rate, shows how much filtered air a purifier delivers per minute, so a higher figure suits larger rooms. The brand says that equals 4.8 air changes per hour in rooms up to 229 ft², and filtering in rooms up to 1,100 ft² in one hour. Noise runs from 21 to 53 dB, with 21 dB in sleep mode. Rated power is 39 W on 100-240 V.

Size

The dimensions appear in two ways in the listing, 8.1 x 12.9 x 18.0 inches on one line and 15.59 x 10.67 x 21.61 inches in the description, and the weights differ too (11.5 lb and 15.65 lb). Check the manual before choosing a spot.

Who it suits

It suits households with cats or dogs, especially where litter box or pet bed odours linger, and people who want an app-controlled purifier that adjusts itself.

What to check before you buy

  • Room size: compare the rated coverage with your actual room.
  • Placement: leave clearance around the inlet and outlet as the manual says.
  • Filters: confirm genuine replacement filters are available.
  • Noise: consider the level at your chosen speed, especially in a bedroom.
  • App: check your phone and Wi-Fi support the VeSync app.
