The Levoit Vital 100S-P (model LAP-V102S-KUS) is a smart air purifier for bedrooms, living rooms and open-plan spaces, with features aimed at homes with cats or dogs. Its performance is verified under AHAM's programme, which gives its room-size figures a standard, independent basis. Here is what those numbers mean and how the filters and modes work.

AHAM Verifide and CADR explained

AHAM, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, runs a verification programme in which air purifiers are independently tested for air-cleaning performance. The key figure is CADR (clean air delivery rate): roughly, how many cubic feet of filtered air the purifier delivers per minute. The Vital 100S-P has a smoke CADR of 143 CFM.

From CADR you get air changes per hour. Levoit says the purifier cleans the air 4.8 times an hour in a 222 sq ft room (about 21 m²), or once an hour in up to 1,073 sq ft (about 100 m²). Those figures line up with a standard 8-foot ceiling: 143 CFM over an hour is enough to replace the air in a 222 sq ft room almost five times. For a bedroom or living room you use every day, the higher air-change figure is the more useful guide.

Three-stage filtration

Air passes through three layers:

  1. Washable pre-filter: catches hair, lint and large dust. You can rinse it with water, which helps the rest of the system last longer.
  2. Main filter: in independent lab testing, it captured 99.97% of airborne particles from 0.1 to 0.3 microns, such as pollen, dust and pet dander.
  3. Activated carbon filter: carbon adsorbs gases rather than particles, and Levoit says this layer helps remove pet odours, fumes and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

Levoit also offers alternative replacement filters with different focuses, such as smog and VOCs, wildfire smoke, or pet fur and odours. The standard replacement is the Vital 100S-RF, and Levoit advises using genuine filters.

Features for homes with pets

A wide U-shaped air inlet is designed to trap airborne pet fur and large particles before they settle. Pet Mode cleans the air while conserving energy. Pet hair and the washable pre-filter go together: the more fur in the home, the more often the pre-filter needs a rinse.

Sleep mode, schedules and the app

In HEPA Sleep Mode, light detection notices when the room gets dark, turns off the display lights and keeps Auto Mode at the quietest fan speeds. Levoit says its original filter is HEPA-grade while running in this mode, as tested by an independent lab.

The free VeSync app lets you change settings, set timers, check filter life and connect to third-party voice assistants. Schedules set exact start and end times, with a chosen fan speed or mode, such as Pet Mode, Auto Mode or Sleep Mode, for different parts of the day.

Who it suits

The Vital 100S-P suits bedrooms, living rooms and open-plan spaces, especially in homes with cats or dogs, and people who want app control and scheduling rather than a simple dial.

What to check before you buy

  • Room size: measure your room and compare it with the 222 sq ft (4.8 changes an hour) and 1,073 sq ft (once an hour) figures; high ceilings reduce the effective coverage.
  • Placement: the unit measures about 12.6 x 6.3 x 16.0 inches (roughly 32 x 16 x 41 cm) and weighs about 8.6 lb (3.9 kg). Leave space around the inlet and outlet.
  • Filter upkeep: check how often Levoit suggests replacing the main filter, and that genuine Vital 100S-RF filters are easy to get where you live.
  • App: confirm the VeSync app and your voice assistant work with your phone and home network.
  • Noise: check the noise levels at each speed in the manual if the purifier will run in a bedroom.
