The Frizzlife JG40-100 is a spin down sediment filter that goes on a household water line to catch sand, rust and grit before they reach pipes and appliances. Instead of a paper or polyester cartridge, it uses a washable stainless steel screen that you flush clean. Here is how it works and what to check.
How a spin down filter works
Water enters the housing and spins around a mesh screen. Heavier particles drop into the bottom of the chamber while the water carries on through the screen. When enough debris collects, you open a flush valve and rinse it out. Because the screen is cleaned rather than thrown away, there is typically no regular cartridge to buy.
Two screens: 40 and 100 micron
Two stainless steel screens come in the package. The 100 micron screen suits heavier sediment, while the 40 micron screen catches finer particles. Frizzlife notes that the 40 micron screen clogs more easily because of the finer mesh, so it needs more frequent cleaning. A micron is a thousandth of a millimetre, and a smaller number means a finer screen. Replacement screens are sold separately for each size, according to the listing.
Flushing and the scraper
Cleaning is designed to be quick. Frizzlife says you connect the supplied 1/4-inch drain hose, open the valve and use the built-in scraper to clear what is left, with no need to take the unit apart. A pressure gauge on the housing lets you see the line pressure, and a drop can be a sign the screen needs cleaning.
Build and flow
The housing uses brass, SUS316 stainless steel mesh and BPA-free materials. Frizzlife says it was tested at 900 psi and through more than 200,000 water hammer cycles. The bore is not reduced, meaning it matches standard pipe size, and the brand quotes flow of up to 20 GPM. Rated flow still depends on your pipes and supply.
Fittings and size
The kit includes adapters for 1-inch MNPT, 3/4-inch FNPT and 3/4-inch MNPT connections. It is listed for hot and cold water plumbing. The body measures about 4.33 x 3.15 x 9.84 inches (11 x 8 x 25 cm). Frizzlife describes it as a whole-house pre-filter that protects water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines and reverse osmosis systems from sediment.
Who it suits
It suits homes on well water or with older pipes and municipal lines that carry sand or rust, and anyone fitting a pre-filter ahead of other filters or appliances. A sediment filter only handles particles, so it does not replace carbon or reverse osmosis filtration for taste or dissolved substances.
What to check before you buy
- Pipe connection: confirm which of the 1-inch and 3/4-inch fittings your line needs.
- Space: allow room below the housing to reach the flush valve and drain hose.
- Drain: work out where the flushed water will go.
- Screen choice: start with the coarser screen if you have heavy sediment, and expect more frequent cleaning with the finer one.
- Hot water: check the temperature and pressure limits in the manual.
- Installation: follow local plumbing codes and the manual, or use a plumber if unsure.
The short version
- A washable stainless steel spin down sediment filter with 40 and 100 micron screens.
- Flush valve, 1/4-inch drain hose, built-in scraper and pressure gauge.
- Brass body, tested at 900 psi and 200,000+ water hammer cycles, per Frizzlife.
- Flow up to 20 GPM; adapters for 1-inch and 3/4-inch pipe.
- Removes particles only, so it is not a taste or chemical filter.
