What 250 W and 10 kPa mean

Eureka lists a 250 W motor and 10 kPa of suction. The wattage describes the motor's power draw; the kilopascal figure describes suction pressure, or how strongly the vacuum pulls air through the nozzle. Higher suction helps lift fine dust out of cracks between floorboards and grit from carpet fibres.

Suction is only part of the picture, though. How well a vacuum picks up in practice also depends on airflow, the design of the brush roll and how well the floor head seals against the floor. Treat the 10 kPa figure as a guide to its strength rather than a full measure of performance.

Run time and the three power modes

Eureka lists three modes:

• Eco: up to 40 minutes, enough for a whole-home pass on mostly hard floors.
• Regular: about 20 minutes.

Like most cordless vacuums, it runs longest on its lowest setting, and the run time drops quickly at full power. Pet hair and floor types

It's built for hard floors, low-pile carpets and car interiors. The anti-tangle brush roll is designed to handle pet hair, which tends to wrap around the bristles of an ordinary brush roll and needs cutting free. Thick or high-pile carpets aren't among the listed floor types.

Reaching under furniture and up the stairs

A reclining design lets the wand lie low to reach under sofas and beds, and a brush head that rotates 180 degrees turns into corners and around table legs. Built-in LED lights show up dust in dim spots under furniture.

It converts from upright to handheld in seconds. With the included crevice tool and dusting brush, the handheld handles stairs, skirting boards, shelves, sofa cushions and car seats.

Filtration, emptying and parking
