The Dreo DR-HSH008 is a 30-inch electric tower heater with a ceramic heating element, a remote control and an oscillating body. It is aimed at larger rooms such as living rooms, bedrooms and home offices, where a small desktop heater would struggle to spread warmth. Here is what its features mean and what to confirm before choosing a space heater.
How the ceramic element and oscillation work
Dreo says the heater uses a 308 mm PTC ceramic element. PTC (positive temperature coefficient) elements typically limit their own temperature as they warm, which is one reason ceramic heaters are common in portable units. The brand pairs it with what it calls a Hyperamics thermal design.
A fan pushes air across the element, and the tower oscillates through 30°, 60°, 90° or 120°. A narrower sweep concentrates warmth on one seating area; the widest setting spreads it across more of the room. Dreo rates the heater for rooms up to 300 square feet (about 28 square metres).
Heat levels, fan levels and ECO mode
The listing describes nine comfort settings: five heat levels, an ECO mode and three fan-only levels. Fan-only operation moves air without heating, which is useful out of season. Dreo says its controllable silicon technology holds the temperature precisely and cites energy savings of up to 50%. That figure is the brand's own and depends on how the comparison is made, so treat it as a description of intent rather than a guarantee.
An adjustable thermostat lets you set a target temperature. The heater then cycles its output to hold it, instead of running flat out all the time. A timer from 1 to 12 hours and the remote make it easy to adjust from across the room.
Safety features
The listing names eight protections: V0 flame-retardant material, a cool-touch housing, a FortPlug, thermally insulated wiring, a child lock, 45° tip-over protection and overheat protection. The heater is described as ETL certified. These are the features most buyers should look for in any portable heater, though no feature replaces sensible use.
Plug a heater straight into a wall outlet, not an extension cord or power strip, and keep it clear of curtains, bedding and other combustibles. Follow the manual and your local codes. Dreo also notes that a stable household voltage helps the heater perform as intended.
What 25 dB means in practice
Dreo quotes a noise level of 25 dB, which it describes as ultra-quiet. For comparison, 25 dB is typically in the range of a whisper or a very quiet bedroom. Figures like this are measured under specific conditions and usually apply to the lowest fan setting, so higher heat levels will sound louder.
Size and placement
The tower measures about 7.9 x 7.9 x 29.7 inches (20 x 20 x 75 cm) and weighs 8 lb (about 3.6 kg). That is a slim footprint, but it is light enough to carry between rooms. Place it on a flat, level floor with clear space around it.
Who it suits
It suits people who want to warm one larger room, such as a home office or a bedroom, and who value a remote, a timer and an oscillating sweep. It is a supplement to central heating rather than a replacement for it.
What to check before you buy
- Room size: compare the 300 ft² figure with your room, and your ceiling height and insulation.
- Power: confirm the outlet and circuit can handle a heater of this type. Check the wattage in the manual.
- Noise: the 25 dB figure is a minimum; think about the heat level you will actually use.
- Placement: you need a flat floor and open space around the unit, away from fabrics.
- Upkeep: dust on the intake can affect performance, so check the manual for cleaning advice.
- Controls: check that the remote's range and the timer suit how you use the room.
