The Arboleaf smart scale measures weight along with a long list of body composition estimates and sends them to a phone app. It uses eight electrodes, including a handheld pair, and is built for people who want to follow trends at home. It is a tracking tool and not a medical device, as the brand makes clear.

How eight electrodes work

Body composition scales rely on bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). A very small electrical signal passes through the body, and the scale estimates things like fat and water from how easily the signal travels. A basic scale has four foot electrodes. Arboleaf says its 8-electrode design adds handheld electrodes, so it reads the arms, legs and torso separately, which it says is more accurate than standard 4-electrode scales.

What the 50+ metrics cover

The scale lists more than 50 metrics, including weight, BMI, body fat percentage, visceral fat, muscle mass, bone mass, water and BMR (basal metabolic rate, the energy the body uses at rest). Most of these are estimates from a formula, so they are best read as changes over weeks instead of exact values. Arboleaf states that BIA data is for long-term trend tracking and is not equivalent to DEXA or professional medical body composition analysis, and that estimation errors may occur.

Platform and display

The tempered glass platform measures 12.2 x 12.2 inches and is tip-resistant. A bright LED display cycles through 7 key metrics, so you can see the main numbers without opening the app. Units can be switched between lb, kg, st and st:lb in the app.

The app and syncing

The scale syncs by Bluetooth to the Arboleaf app. The app builds weekly, monthly and yearly charts, and works with Apple Health, Google Fit and Fitbit. To set up, open the app, connect to the scale and enter your details, such as height and age.

Profiles

The scale supports 8 profiles with automatic recognition, plus a guest mode, which suits families or groups. Arboleaf mentions U.S.-based support.

Usage precautions

Arboleaf advises that anyone with a pacemaker or who is pregnant should avoid using the body fat function. Use the scale on a flat, firm surface, keep it somewhere dry and follow the manual.

What to check before you buy

  • Medical devices: follow the precautions above and ask a professional if unsure.
  • Phone: confirm your phone supports the app and Bluetooth.
  • Health apps: check that Apple Health, Google Fit or Fitbit is what you use.
  • Floor: a flat, firm surface is needed; thick carpet is a poor choice.
  • Space: it measures about 15.4 x 13.4 x 2.5 inches.
  • Expectations: body composition numbers are estimates, so use them to follow trends.

The short version

  • A Bluetooth smart scale with 8 electrodes, including handheld sensors.
  • Over 50 metrics, including body fat, muscle mass, bone mass, water and BMR.
  • 12.2 x 12.2 inch tempered glass platform with a rotating LED display.
  • App charts, Apple Health, Google Fit and Fitbit integration, and 8 profiles plus guest mode.
  • Estimates are for trend tracking and not a substitute for professional analysis.
