The Aosom Kids ATV Quad (model 370-277V80GN) is a small 6-volt electric ride-on for toddlers. It is a green quad with a trailer on the back, made for children aged 18 to 36 months who want to drive something of their own. The low speed and simple controls suit very young drivers.
How it drives
Aosom says the quad reaches 1.6 mph, which it describes as faster than an adult's regular walk. A foot pedal makes it go, and it can move forward or in reverse. Because the speed is low, a parent can usually keep up on foot. A 6V battery system is typical for the youngest ride-on toys, as it limits speed and power compared with 12V and 24V models.
The cargo trailer
The trailer at the back is the feature that sets this model apart from a plain ride-on. Aosom suggests children can load it with toys or stuffed animals and "take the fun from place to place". It also makes pretend play easier: hauling blocks, soft toys or garden bits around the yard gives a toddler a job to do.
Wheels and where it can go
The wheels are described as wear-resistant, and Aosom says they handle several types of ground and make bumps more comfortable. In general, small plastic-wheeled ride-ons work best on flat, firm surfaces such as pavement, a patio or short grass. Deep grass, gravel, slopes and wet ground are usually harder going for a low-powered 6V vehicle. Follow the manual about where to use it.
Seat, steering and fit
The seat is 11 inches long and 4 inches wide, and it has non-slip handlebars sized for small hands. The quad measures 41.7 x 16.3 x 19.0 inches (about 106 x 41 x 48 cm), including the trailer, and weighs 13.4 lb (about 6 kg). The maximum load is 55 lb (about 25 kg). The age range of 18 to 36 months is Aosom's. Children of that age should be supervised while driving.
Certifications
The listing states certification to ASTM F963 and CPSIA, which are US toy-safety standards. Follow the manual's instructions for assembly, charging and use, and keep the child supervised at all times.
What to check before you buy
- Your child's size and age: compare the seat size and the 55 lb load limit with your child.
- Where it will be used: check your driveway or yard for smooth, level ground.
- Charging: check the manual for how the battery charges, how long it takes, and what is included.
- Storage: with a trailer attached, it needs more room than a single ride-on. Check that it fits where you'll keep it.
- Assembly: most ride-ons arrive in parts, so allow time and check what's in the box.
