A retractable two-tier bed step for the 2021-2027 Ford F-150 and 2022-2025 F-150 Lightning: what its 330 lb capacity, die-cast build and no-drill fit mean.

The WOLFBOX BS01 is a retractable step that mounts under the rear bumper of a Ford F-150 and drops down when you need to climb into the bed. Pickup beds sit high, and reaching gear, groceries or tools that have slid towards the cab often means climbing up. A bed step gives you a foothold, and this one has two tiers.

Which trucks it fits

The BS01 fits the 2021-2027 Ford F-150 and the 2022-2025 F-150 Lightning EV. It mounts on the driver's side of the truck. Raptor models are excluded, and so are trucks with dual exhaust or an aftermarket exhaust.

Because fit depends on the model year, the trim and what's already under the bumper, it's worth confirming all three before ordering. The step is designed for these trucks specifically, so it isn't meant for other pickups.

A two-tier step

Most bed steps offer a single foothold. The BS01 adds a side step, so there are two levels on the way up: the main step and an extra foothold beside it. Splitting the climb into two shorter steps can make getting up into the bed easier than one tall step.

When you don't need it, the step retracts and stays tucked away under the rear bumper, out of sight and out of the way.

330 lb capacity and an anti-slip platform

When deployed, the step supports up to 330 lb (about 150 kg). The platform is wide and has an anti-slip surface for a steadier foothold, including when boots are wet or muddy.

The capacity matters if you climb up carrying something heavy, such as a toolbox or a full cooler, because the step carries you and the load together.

Die-cast aluminium with an electrocoat

The step is made from die-cast aluminium, which is formed by forcing molten metal into a mould. Aluminium is light and doesn't rust the way steel does, though it can still corrode. The corrosion-resistant electrocoating is applied using an electrical charge, which typically gives an even layer that reaches into corners and recesses.

That protection matters for a part that sits low at the back of a truck, where it meets water, mud and, in many places, winter road salt. WOLFBOX describes it as made for long-term use.

No-drill installation

Installation uses the truck's factory holes, so there's no drilling, and only basic tools are needed. Because the body isn't modified, the step can typically be taken off again later without leaving new holes. WOLFBOX covers it with a three-year warranty.

It suits F-150 owners who often climb into the bed to load or reach things: groceries, camping gear, work tools, or anything that ends up in the middle of the bed.

What to check before you buy

  • Model year and trim: confirm your truck is a 2021-2027 F-150 or a 2022-2025 F-150 Lightning, and not a Raptor.
  • Exhaust: trucks with dual or aftermarket exhaust are excluded; check what's under your rear bumper.
  • Side: it mounts on the driver's side; check that suits how you load the truck.
  • Other accessories: check that it won't get in the way of a hitch, trailer wiring or other parts under the bumper.
  • Tools: read the instructions to see which tools you'll need.
