The VEVOR ZC13500 is a 12-volt DC electric winch with 13,500 lb of pulling capacity, made for vehicle recovery and towing. It mounts on a truck, SUV, Jeep or trailer and pulls a stuck vehicle out of mud, sand or snow, or helps load heavy gear. Here is what the main specs mean and what to confirm before choosing one.
What 13,500 lb of pull means
A winch's stated capacity is the load it is designed to pull, and it is usually quoted for the first layer of rope on the drum. VEVOR describes the ZC13500 as suited to recovering SUVs and pickups. As a general rule, winch capacity is chosen at roughly one and a half times the vehicle's gross weight, to allow for the extra drag of mud, sand or an incline. Check your own vehicle's weight against the capacity, using the manual's guidance.
Motor and gearing
VEVOR lists a 7.2 HP motor paired with a 218.4:1, three-stage planetary gear set. A planetary gearbox is a compact way to multiply the motor's torque. A high ratio such as this one trades speed for pulling force, so line speed is typically slow and steady rather than fast. The listing says this gives consistent pulling power under load.
Synthetic rope
The drum carries 92 ft (about 28 m) of 3/8 in synthetic rope, made from 12-strand polyethylene. Compared with steel cable, synthetic rope is generally much lighter, doesn't develop sharp broken strands, and is easier to handle and coil. It does need care: UV light, abrasion on rocks and heat from a hot fairlead can wear it, so most owners keep it clean and inspect it regularly. VEVOR says this rope is built to handle UV and wear.
Remote controls
Two controllers are included: a wireless remote with a stated range of 59 ft (about 18 m) and a wired remote with a 9.8 ft (about 3 m) lead. The wired unit is the backup if the wireless remote's battery fails or interference is a problem. Being able to stand clear of the line while operating the winch is the main reason to use a remote.
Sealing, body and brake
VEVOR lists the winch as IP68. In general, IP6x means dust-tight and IPx8 means protected against continuous immersion under conditions set by the manufacturer. The body is coated aluminium alloy. A braking system holds the load and stops the drum rolling back when power is off. A four-layer rope guide helps the rope wind evenly, and a red warning zone on the rope signals tension, which VEVOR says helps avoid overloading.
Size and who it suits
The winch measures 21.3 x 6.7 x 7.7 inches (about 54 x 17 x 20 cm) and weighs 54.2 lb (about 24.6 kg). It suits off-road drivers, owners of trucks and SUVs who tow or travel remote roads, and people who work with trailers, boats or farm vehicles. It is a vehicle-mounted recovery tool and not a lifting device, so follow the manual on how it should be used.
What to check before you buy
- Mounting: confirm your bumper or winch plate has a matching bolt pattern and is strong enough for the load.
- Electrical system: a winch of this size draws heavy current. Check the battery, alternator and cable gauge the manual calls for.
- Vehicle weight: compare it to the capacity, allowing a margin.
- Accessories: recovery straps, a snatch block, gloves and anchor points are usually bought separately. Check what's in the box.
- Local rules: some areas have rules on bumper-mounted equipment.
- Upkeep: inspect the rope, clean it after muddy use and follow the maintenance steps in the manual.
