The VEVOR TB09-1 is a lockable aluminum storage box made to sit on the tongue, the front A-frame, of a utility trailer or RV. It gives you somewhere to keep batteries, tools and outdoor gear that would otherwise ride loose in the tow vehicle. VEVOR also lists it for pickup truck beds, SUVs and off-road vehicles.

Aluminum construction

VEVOR says the box is made from thick aluminum alloy, which it describes as strong yet light, with resistance to rust and wear. Aluminum does not rust like bare steel, which is why it is common in trailer accessories. At 9.0 lb empty, the box is easy to lift into place.

Size and capacity

The listed interior is 26 inches long, 13 inches wide and 12 inches tall (about 66 x 33 x 30 cm). VEVOR suggests batteries, tools and outdoor gear. A box this size typically takes a tool bag, a few straps and chains, a jack, wheel chocks or a spare battery. Longer items such as shovels or full-length bars may not fit.

Weather sealing

The doors overlap, and VEVOR fits extra-wide sealing strips to keep water out. No lidded box is guaranteed to be waterproof, particularly while a trailer is bouncing along a road or being power-washed, so for sensitive gear such as electronics, it is wise to use a sealed bag inside.

Lid and gas struts

Steel gas struts open the lid to 90° and, according to VEVOR, give controlled cushioning when it closes. Rear grooves hold the lid fully open for unobstructed access. A lid that stays up on its own is useful when you are lifting heavy items in and out.

Lock and keys

A built-in lock is included, with two keys. VEVOR says the lock helps resist prying and reduces vibration impact during transport. As with any toolbox, a lock deters casual theft rather than preventing a determined one, so consider what you leave inside.

Fitting it to a trailer

VEVOR notes that several sizes are available for trailers and RVs, so measure your own tongue first. Look at the width of the A-frame, the clearance for the coupler, safety chains and any jack, and where the cables and hoses run. The exact mounting method depends on your trailer, so check the box's instructions and the hardware that comes with it.

Who it suits

It suits people towing utility, car-hauler or camping trailers who want tools and spares on the trailer, RV owners with a clear space on the tongue, and truck owners who want a box that doubles as a bed organiser.

What to check before you buy

  • Space on the tongue: measure the A-frame, coupler, chains and jack clearance against the 26 x 13 x 12 inch footprint.
  • Turning clearance: make sure the tow vehicle can still turn without hitting the box.
  • Weight: a full box adds weight at the hitch. Check your trailer's tongue weight limits.
  • Contents: compare the interior size with your longest items.
  • Mounting: check what hardware comes in the box and how it fastens.
  • Upkeep: keep the sealing strips clean and check the lock and struts from time to time.
