The VEVOR SBC-55A is an RV power converter and battery charger. It takes standard 120V AC, such as shore power at a campsite, and turns it into 12V DC for the batteries and devices in a camper. It is a replacement or upgrade component for the electrical system, not a plug-in gadget.

What a converter does in an RV

Most RV lights, fans, water pumps and USB sockets run on 12V DC. When the RV is plugged in, a converter supplies that power and also charges the house battery. Without one, the battery would drain as you use the lights. A converter-charger therefore does two jobs: it powers the DC circuits and keeps the battery topped up.

What 55 amps means

VEVOR says the unit delivers up to 55A of clean, consistent current. Amps tell you how much current the unit can supply. At 12V, 55A is roughly 660W of DC output. VEVOR notes it suits lights, speakers and similar essentials, and describes it as suited to medium-capacity batteries rated 55Ah-70Ah. If your RV has many DC loads or a large battery bank, add up the draw before choosing a converter.

Battery chemistries and charge modes

The SBC-55A supports both lead-acid and LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. The two types need different charging profiles, so VEVOR gives dedicated modes for each. There is also a fixed-voltage mode with selectable settings of 13.0V, 14.6V and 16.5V. VEVOR lists an operating range of 13V to 16.5V. Using the wrong voltage can shorten a battery's life, so match the mode to the battery type and follow the battery maker's charging specification. The battery is not included.

Multi-stage smart charging

Multi-stage charging, in general, moves through phases, such as a higher-current stage to bring the battery up and a lower-voltage stage to hold it without overcharging. VEVOR says this extends battery life. An intelligent cooling fan starts automatically when the unit passes its rated temperature, and the metal housing helps dissipate heat.

Protections and wiring

Six protections are listed: short circuit, over temperature, overload, low voltage, overvoltage and reverse polarity. A 100% copper cable is included. These features reduce the risk of wiring mistakes, but they do not replace careful installation. Install according to the manual, use correctly sized fuses and wire, and follow local codes. If you are not comfortable working on RV electrical systems, have a qualified technician fit it.

Size

The converter measures 10.4 x 7.2 x 3.7 inches (about 26 x 18 x 9 cm) and weighs 5.1 lb (about 2.3 kg). Check that you have a ventilated spot for it, as the fan needs airflow.

Who it suits

It suits owners of campers and RVs who need a replacement converter, people moving a camper to a lithium battery, and those building out a van or trailer electrical system. It is for 120V shore-power hookups, not for driving.

What to check before you buy

  • Battery type and size: confirm whether you have lead-acid or LiFePO4 and the capacity, compared with VEVOR's 55Ah-70Ah guidance.
  • Total DC load: add up everything that will run at once, and make sure 55A covers it.
  • Fit and wiring: check the mounting space, the existing wiring and the connector types.
  • Fusing: the manual should specify fuse and cable sizes for input and output.
  • Ventilation: leave space around the unit for the fan and housing.
  • Existing equipment: if your RV has a combined converter and distribution panel, ask whether this is a straight swap.

The short version

  • A 55A, 120V AC to 12V DC converter-charger, model SBC-55A.
  • Lead-acid and LiFePO4 modes, plus fixed 13.0V, 14.6V and 16.5V options.
  • Multi-stage charging, cooling fan and six listed protections.
  • 100% copper cable; battery not included.
  • About 10.4 x 7.2 x 3.7 inches and 5.1 lb.
