The VEVOR P2000-1 is a compact 12V electric winch rated for 2000 lb of line pull. It is aimed at ATVs, UTVs and other small vehicles that can get stuck in mud or on rough trails. This page covers what its specifications mean and what to check before fitting one.

What 2000 lb line pull means

Line pull is the maximum force the winch can apply to the cable, measured with the cable on the first layer of the drum. It is not the weight of vehicle it can safely move, because mud, slopes and friction multiply the load. Most winch guidance suggests choosing a capacity well above the vehicle's weight; a 2000 lb unit is typically a fit for light ATVs and small utility vehicles. Check your own vehicle's weight and the manual.

Motor and gearing

VEVOR fits a 12V DC permanent magnet copper motor of 0.95 HP with a planetary gear system and a 153:1 gear ratio. Planetary gears are compact and strong, and a high ratio trades speed for pulling force. A winch like this works slowly, which is normal. Winches draw high current, so they are usually wired directly to a healthy battery, and running one with the engine on is common advice.

Cable and fairlead

The cable is 7-strand steel, 5/32 inch thick and 39 feet long, and VEVOR says the last five wraps carry bright red markings so you can see when the cable is nearly out. A roller fairlead guides the cable in and out and reduces wear on the cable edge. Steel cable can fray and hold a lot of energy under load, so gloves and a clear area are standard practice.

Remote control and weather resistance

The winch comes with a wired remote with a waterproof, corrosion-resistant casing. VEVOR notes a wired remote has no batteries to lose, unlike wireless versions. The winch carries an IP55 classification, which indicates protection against dust and water jets, but it is not for submerging. A black matte finish adds some rust resistance, and the power cables are colour-coded for wiring.

Size and weight

The winch measures about 10.9 x 4.0 x 4.2 inches and weighs 16 lb, so it fits on small vehicles that can't carry a heavy winch.

Who it suits

It suits owners of ATVs and UTVs, and light trailers and small vehicles, who need self-recovery on trails, farms or worksites. It isn't intended for full-size trucks. A winch is for recovery, not for lifting people or loads overhead.

What to check before you buy

  • Vehicle weight: compare it against the winch's capacity, with margin for terrain.
  • Mounting: confirm your vehicle has a suitable mounting plate or bolt pattern.
  • Electrical system: check the battery and wiring can supply the current the manual requires.
  • Anchor points: plan for tree straps, recovery points and a snatch block, which are sold separately.
  • Accessories: gloves, a line dampener and a hook strap are typical extras.
  • Safety: read the manual before use, keep bystanders clear and never exceed the rated load.
