The VEVOR 917 is a 20-gallon waste oil drain tank on wheels, made for catching used oil from vehicles raised on a lift. A wide funnel sits on a height-adjustable pole above a powder-coated steel tank, and the system is air operated for emptying and transferring fluids. Here is what its specs mean in a repair workshop or a home garage.
Why a tall drain helps with a lift
A low drain pan works when you slide under a car on the floor. Once a vehicle is up on a lift, the drain plug and filter are well above your head, and a pan on the ground means a long, messy drop. A lift drain like this one puts a funnel on a pole, so you roll the tank under the vehicle, raise the funnel until it sits just below the drain point, and let the oil run in.
On the VEVOR, the funnel height adjusts from 38 to 65 inches (99 to 165 cm), set with a knob on the pole. VEVOR's images show it under sedans, SUVs and truck chassis. The funnel itself is 15 inches (about 38 cm) across and splash-proof, which gives a generous target when oil starts to flow at an angle.
What 20 gallons covers
Twenty US gallons is roughly 76 litres. VEVOR says that is enough for up to 10 consecutive oil drains before the tank needs emptying. How many drains you actually get depends on what you work on: most passenger car engines hold somewhere around 4 to 8 quarts of oil, while larger trucks and diesel engines can hold considerably more. Allow some headroom rather than filling the tank to the brim.
The air-operated system
On top of the tank sit a pressure gauge, a ball valve and a relief valve. VEVOR describes the drain as air operated, for fast draining and transfer of oils and fluids. On drains of this type, the tank is typically emptied by connecting compressed air at a low pressure, which pushes the collected oil out through a hose into a drum or another container. The gauge shows the pressure inside the tank, and the relief valve lets excess pressure out. Check the manual for the exact procedure and the maximum pressure before you connect an air line.
The drain also has a reinforced hose 5 feet 9 inches (about 1.75 m) long. VEVOR rates it for continuous work at 120°C (248°F), which matters because oil is often drained while the engine is still warm.
Moving it around
The tank rolls on 4.5-inch rigid wheels and 2.76-inch (about 7 cm) swivel casters, with a push-pull handle on the side. The swivel casters let it turn in tight spaces between lift posts, while larger wheels generally roll more easily over cracks and cords on a garage floor.
Build and size
The body is steel with a powder coating, which VEVOR says resists impacts and corrosion. The footprint is about 15.7 x 15.2 inches (40 x 38.5 cm), it stands 65 inches (165 cm) tall with the funnel fully raised, and it weighs 30.9 lb (14 kg) empty. A full tank is much heavier, since 20 gallons of used oil weighs well over a hundred pounds, so empty it before moving it far.
Who it suits
It suits repair workshops and home garages with a two-post or four-post lift, where oil changes and fluid drains happen often. It is less useful if you only work on a car parked on the floor or on ramps, where a low drain pan reaches more easily.
What to check before you buy
- Working height: measure how high your lift raises vehicles and compare it with the 38 to 65 inch funnel range.
- Air supply: confirm you have a compressor and the right fitting for the air connection, and check the pressure limit in the manual.
- Fluids: confirm in the manual which fluids the tank is meant to collect.
- Space: allow for its 65-inch height and footprint where you keep it.
- Disposal: used oil must go to an approved collection point, so check your local rules.
