The VEVOR 50 ft 50 Amp RV Extension Cord extends a 50-amp power connection by 50 feet (about 15 metres). It's built for people who park an RV, trailer or camper some way from the pedestal or outlet, and VEVOR also lists EV charging as a use.
What the NEMA 14-50 connectors mean
The cord runs from a NEMA 14-50P plug to a 14-50R receptacle. In general, the 14-50 is a four-prong, 125/250V connection: two hot conductors, a neutral and a ground. It's the standard 50-amp RV connection in North America, and is also used for many electric ranges and EV charging outlets. The listing gives the model as RV50H/RV50H-R, at 125/250V and 50 amp.
Because plug and receptacle share the same type, the cord works as a straight extension. It doesn't convert 30-amp or 15-amp connections. Adapters do that, and are a different product.
Wire gauge and the sheath
VEVOR specifies STW wire with 6 AWG for three conductors and 8 AWG for one. In general, a thicker conductor (a lower AWG number) carries current with less voltage drop and less heat, which matters at 50 amps over a 50-foot run. The brand says the conductors are pure copper, with a flame-retardant, heat-resistant PVC sheath. The STW designation typically means a cord rated for hard service and weather exposure.
Weatherproof connection
A threaded locking ring on the connection and the PVC sheath are described as giving a weatherproof connection for outdoor use. As a general rule, a locking ring helps keep the connectors together if the cord is tugged. Keep connections off wet ground, and follow the manual.
Handling and keeping it tidy
The plug has a handle shaped for gripping, which makes unplugging easier, particularly with a heavy cord. VEVOR also includes an adjustable cord organiser and a carry strap, so the cord can be coiled and carried. The packaging measures about 16.5 x 16.5 x 6.5 inches (42 x 42 x 17 cm).
Who it suits
It suits RV owners whose site pedestal is further away than their own cord reaches, campers using different sites, and people who need to reach a 14-50 outlet for an EV charger. VEVOR describes it as suitable for most RVs, campers, trailers and vehicles with a 50-amp connection.
What to check before you buy
- Connection type: confirm that your RV inlet and the outlet are both 14-50 (four-prong, 50 amp).
- Length: measure the distance to the outlet. Longer cords add voltage drop, so use only as much as you need.
- EV charging: check your charger's manual and the vehicle maker's guidance before using any extension cord with it.
- Condition and upkeep: inspect for damage before each use and keep the cord dry and coiled loosely.
- Rules and wiring: follow local electrical codes, the campground's rules and the manual. Have an electrician check any doubtful outlet.
- Fit: make sure the plug and receptacle fit your pedestal and RV without strain.
