A tongue jack lifts the front of a trailer so you can hitch, unhitch and level it. The VEVOR MJ-1500B-DWJ is a bolt-on trailer jack rated for 1,500 lb. VEVOR lists it for travel trailers, horse trailers, utility trailers and boat or yacht trailers.

What the jack does

When a trailer is parked, its weight at the front, the tongue weight, needs to rest on something. A tongue jack carries that weight, raises the coupler off the ball and lowers it again. A wheel on the jack's foot lets you roll the trailer a short distance by hand on firm ground.

Capacity and lift range

VEVOR rates the jack at 1,500 lb (about 680 kg), with a lifting range of 12.51 to 22.52 inches, which it says suits both high-profile and low-profile trailers. The overall length is 35.3 inches (about 90 cm) and the jack weighs 19 lb (about 8.6 kg). Remember that the limit applies to the load on the jack, not to the total trailer weight, so compare it with your trailer's tongue weight and leave a margin.

Mounting and swivel

The jack can be bolted or welded to the trailer tongue. VEVOR says the package includes the necessary parts and detailed assembly instructions. A swivel function lets the jack swing up parallel to the tongue, which keeps it out of the way when you tow. Check that your tongue's mounting surface and bolt pattern match the jack.

Materials and finish

The jack is made from heavy-duty carbon steel for strength and rigidity. VEVOR says the inner and outer tubes are galvanized and finished with powder coating for corrosion resistance. That is helpful for trailers that sit near water or in wet weather.

PP wheels

The wheel is made from PP (polypropylene). VEVOR says the larger contact area makes movement smooth and stable, with less sinking, and that the tyres cope with mud, gravel and sharp rocks. The tread pattern is meant to help prevent sliding on wet surfaces.

Detachable handle

A detachable handle allows manual operation, which VEVOR highlights for power outages or emergencies. A manual crank is also easy to take off to stop it knocking or being lost on the road.

Who it suits

It suits owners of light and mid-size trailers who need to replace a worn jack or fit one to a build. It is not made for supporting a trailer for long periods while you work underneath; use proper stands and chocks for that.

What to check before you buy

  • Tongue weight: make sure it is well under 1,500 lb for your loaded trailer.
  • Mounting: confirm the tube size and whether you will bolt or weld.
  • Lift height: check that the 12.5-22.5 inch range clears your coupler height.
  • Ground: use firm, level ground, and chock the trailer wheels.
  • Upkeep: keep the threads clean and lubricated as the manual says, and inspect it before use.
