The VEVOR EV charger extension cable (model EVS02) adds 21 feet of reach between a J1772 charging cable and the car. It is for drivers of J1772 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids whose charge port sits further from the outlet or charger than the original cable will go. It comes with a carrying bag.
What J1772 means
SAE J1772 is the standard connector used for AC charging on many electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in North America. The extension has a J1772 connector at one end and a J1772 socket at the other, so it sits between your charging cable and the car. Check your car's charge port. Some vehicles use a different connector, and the listing is specifically for J1772.
Voltage and amperage
VEVOR says the cable works with both 120V and 240V, meaning Level 1 (a standard household outlet) and Level 2 (a dedicated charging station). It is rated at 32 amps. At 240V, that corresponds to roughly 7.7 kW as a ceiling (32A x 240V), but the actual charging rate depends on the charger and the vehicle's onboard charger, whichever is lower. An extension cable can't raise either limit.
An extension should be rated at or above the current the charger delivers. If your charger supplies more than 32A, this cable would be the weak link. Check your equipment's nameplate.
Weather and temperature
VEVOR lists:
- IP66 protection, meaning dust tight and protected against powerful water jets. This describes the cable's enclosure when properly connected, and is not a licence to leave connectors lying in puddles.
- Fire-resistant materials.
- Operating range from -22°F to 122°F (-30°C to 50°C).
- Materials: copper conductors with TPE insulation, and PC + ABS housings.
An ergonomic grip is meant to make plugging in and unplugging easier.
What's in the kit
Besides the 21 ft cable, VEVOR includes a carrying bag, a cleaning cloth for dust on the connectors and a cable tie for managing the cord. The kit weighs 5.7 lb. Keeping the connectors clean and dry is a good habit with any charging equipment.
Safe use
Charging involves high currents for hours at a time. Fully uncoil the cable, keep connectors out of standing water, and avoid running it where it can be driven over or tripped on. Don't use a damaged cable. Stop using it if any plug becomes hot, discoloured or loose. Some vehicle makers and charger manuals advise against extension cables, so read both, and follow local electrical codes.
Who it suits
It suits owners who park in awkward spots, share a garage with limited outlets or travel with a portable charger and sometimes find the outlet is out of reach.
What to check before you buy
- Connector type: confirm your car and charger both use J1772.
- Current: confirm your charger doesn't deliver more than 32A.
- Manuals: check whether your car or charger manufacturer allows extension cables.
- Length: 21 ft adds reach, but measure the distance you need.
- Location: think about where the cable will lie, so it stays out of traffic and water.
- Storage: use the bag and keep the connector ends capped and clean.
The short version
- A 21 ft J1772 extension for Level 1 and Level 2 charging, rated 32A.
- Works with 120V and 240V, IP66 rated, -22°F to 122°F operating range.
- Includes a carrying bag, cleaning cloth and cable tie.
- It can't increase the charging speed your car and charger allow.
- Check manuals and local electrical codes before using any extension.
