The VEVOR NPG12-40Ah is a 12-volt, 40 amp-hour sealed AGM deep cycle battery. It is designed to supply steady power for light electric vehicles and similar equipment, such as mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, go-karts and e-bikes. This page explains the terms in the specification and the limits the brand sets on its use.

What AGM means

AGM stands for absorbent glass mat. The electrolyte is held in fibreglass mats between the plates instead of sloshing around as a free liquid. VEVOR says this means the battery needs no maintenance and doesn't need liquid topped up, and that electrolyte consumption is minimal. In general, AGM batteries are sealed, resist spills better than flooded lead-acid types, and can be mounted in more positions, but follow the manual on orientation.

Deep cycle versus starting batteries

A deep cycle battery is built to deliver power steadily over a long period and be discharged fairly deeply many times. A starting battery, like the one in a car, is built to deliver a big burst of current for a few seconds. VEVOR specifically states that this battery is an energy storage battery and can't be used as a power battery or a starting (ignition) battery. Make sure that matches what your equipment needs.

What 40Ah and 400A mean

The 40Ah figure describes capacity: in simple terms, a battery that could supply 40 amps for one hour, or a smaller current for correspondingly longer. In practice, real runtime depends on the load, temperature, age and how deeply the battery is drained. VEVOR also lists a maximum discharge current of 400A within five seconds, which it says helps with start-up of electric devices, and a discharge rate of up to 10 times. Those are short-burst figures, not continuous output figures.

The brand also describes the battery as resistant to high temperatures, compact, and low in self-discharge, meaning it holds its charge reasonably well while stored.

Charging

The listing notes that professional charging equipment is required. In general, sealed lead-acid batteries need a charger designed for their chemistry and voltage, and the wrong charger can shorten their life or damage them. Use a charger suited to 12V AGM batteries and follow the manual.

Size and where it fits

It measures about 7.8 x 6.5 x 6.7 inches (roughly 20 x 16.5 x 17 cm). VEVOR says it's compatible with most light electric vehicles, and lists mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, small motorcycles, bicycles, go-karts and e-bikes. Because sizes, terminal types and voltages vary between vehicles, "compatible" in this sense means electrically similar, not guaranteed to fit a particular model.

Who it suits

It suits people replacing or upgrading a 12V battery in light electric equipment and anyone building a small 12V power setup who wants a sealed, low-maintenance battery.

What to check before you buy

  • Voltage and capacity: check that your equipment uses 12V and that 40Ah is appropriate.
  • Physical fit: compare the dimensions and terminal layout with the battery bay and leads.
  • Application: confirm you don't need a starting or high-continuous-power battery.
  • Charger: make sure you have a compatible AGM charger.
  • Handling: lead-acid batteries are heavy; follow the manual and local rules on handling and recycling.
  • Wiring: use correctly sized cables, connectors and fusing.

The short version

  • A sealed 12V 40Ah AGM deep cycle battery, model NPG12-40Ah.
  • Maintenance-free design; no electrolyte top-ups.
  • Up to 400A discharge for five seconds, according to VEVOR.
  • For light electric vehicles and similar loads; not for engine starting.
  • Needs a suitable charger.
