The Sharmeal M10 is a compact portable jump starter for 12V vehicles. It is a lithium battery pack with a built-in cable that can start a vehicle whose own battery is flat, and it also doubles as a power bank and flashlight. At about 1 lb, it is small enough to keep in a glovebox or bag.

What 5000A peak means

Sharmeal rates the M10 at 5000 amps of peak current and says it can start 12V engines up to 10.0 L petrol or 9.0 L diesel. Peak current is a short-burst figure, so treat it as a guide. Bigger engines and cold weather typically ask more of a jump starter, so match the figure to your vehicle. The brand lists cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, tractors and snowmobiles as suitable.

How to use it

Sharmeal gives four steps:

  1. Insert the jumper cable into the booster; the lights on the smart clip flash alternately.
  2. Connect the clamps to the car battery; a green light indicates a successful connection.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Remove the jumper cable.

Always follow the user manual and your vehicle's owner's guide for clamp placement and any special requirements.

Protections

The listing names 10 integrated protections, including reverse polarity, reverse connection, overcurrent, overvoltage, overload, overcharge, over-discharge and short-circuit protection. Smart clips with indicator lights are designed to warn you about a wrong connection before power flows.

Power bank and flashlight

The M10 also works as a power bank. It has USB output with quick charge for phones, tablets and other USB devices. The LED flashlight has three modes: steady light, strobe and SOS. Press and hold to turn the light on, click to switch to strobe, click again for SOS, and press and hold to turn it off.

Battery and size

Sharmeal says the pack uses an "S-class" ternary lithium battery that makes it light and portable. The unit measures about 1.4 x 3.2 x 7.0 in (roughly 3.6 x 8.1 x 17.8 cm) and weighs 1.0 lb (about 0.45 kg). Lithium jump starters usually need an occasional top-up charge in storage, so check the manual for how often.

In the box

The jump starter and jumper cable, a charging cable, a user manual and a storage bag. The brand adds a 24-month warranty.

Who it suits

It suits drivers who want a small emergency starter within the stated engine sizes, and who want something that also charges devices on the road.

What to check before you buy

  • Engine size: compare yours with the 10.0 L petrol / 9.0 L diesel limits.
  • Voltage: it is for 12V systems only.
  • Charging: confirm what charging cable and input it needs, and keep it topped up.
  • Temperature: check the manual for operating and storage temperature limits.
  • Storage: think about where in the vehicle you will keep it.
  • Warranty and support: the brand lists 24 months.
