The Ehaho MT-4221 is a 17-inch weather-resistant soundbar for UTVs, ATVs, golf carts and boats. It combines a rectangular subwoofer with two small full-range speakers and plays music over Bluetooth or a wired input. Stock vehicles of this type rarely have a stereo, and this is a bolt-on way to add one.

What 2.1 channel means

A 2.1 system has two main speakers (left and right) plus one subwoofer for low frequencies. Here, Ehaho lists two 4-inch full-range speakers and a 17-inch rectangular subwoofer, with a peak power of 500W. Peak power figures are usually a short-burst figure, not continuous output, so treat it as the maker's maximum rather than a typical level.

The brand also adds a note worth reading: the subwoofer only produces low frequencies. On its own, you would mainly feel vibration and hear faint sound, so the speakers and the wiring harness need to be assembled as the manual describes before it will sound complete.

Lighting

The subwoofer has RGB LED lights in the centre and at the sides. The two full-range speakers have blue LEDs that change in brightness with the volume. These are for looks and can be a point to check if you ride at night in places where lights are restricted.

Built for the outdoors

The housing is rated IP65. In general, the 6 means dust-tight and the 5 means protected against water jets, which is a good fit for rain and splashes, but it doesn't mean the unit can be submerged. Ehaho describes the housing as heavy duty for outdoor riding.

Connections and control

  • Bluetooth 5.0 streaming
  • USB port
  • 3.5mm AUX input
  • Control panel and wireless remote

Ehaho says Bluetooth 5.0 gives a stable connection. If your phone is in a pocket on a rough trail, a wired AUX connection is a useful backup.

Installation

The soundbar runs from a 12V supply. The kit includes a cigarette-lighter power connector, or you can connect the power cord directly to the battery. The adjustable mounting bracket fits tubes 1 to 2 inches in diameter, such as roll cage bars. Ehaho lists it for ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, the Polaris RZR, the Can-Am Maverick X3 and marine use. It weighs 18.1 lb (about 8.2 kg) and measures 3.9 x 17.0 x 5.0 inches.

Who it suits

It suits owners of side-by-sides, golf carts and small boats who want music on the move and have a roll bar to mount it on.

What to check before you buy

  • Mounting tube: measure that the tube diameter is between 1 and 2 inches.
  • Power: confirm your vehicle has a 12V supply, and whether you'll use the lighter socket or wire to the battery.
  • Wiring: follow the manual for the harness; correct assembly is needed for full sound.
  • Space: allow for the 17-inch width and the weight on the mount.
  • Noise and local rules: check where you ride, since sound levels and lighting can be regulated.
  • Upkeep: rinse off mud, and check the manual on cleaning around the speakers.
