The Anker Prime Wireless Car Charger is a magnetic phone mount for an air vent that charges at up to 25W. It holds a phone in view for navigation and keeps it topped up on the way, with a built-in cooler to manage the heat that fast wireless charging creates. Here is what its specs mean and what to check first.
Qi2 and what 25W means
Qi2 is the wireless charging standard that adds magnets to line the phone up with the charging coil. Good alignment matters, because a coil that sits off-centre charges slowly and wastes energy as heat. In a car, the magnets also do the job of holding the phone.
The Anker Prime charges at up to 25W. Anker says that takes a recent flagship phone to 50% in about 22 minutes, and rates it up to six times faster than a standard 5W wireless charger. The top speed depends on the phone: models that support only lower wireless speeds still charge, but at their own maximum. Anker adds that actual performance may vary.
AirCool: active cooling while charging
Wireless charging produces heat, and most phones slow their charging when they get warm. That is a common reason why wireless chargers in a sunny car fall short of their rated speed.
Anker's AirCool system uses a thermoelectric cooler (TEC), a solid-state element that moves heat away from one side when powered. Anker says it helps keep the phone below 89°F (about 32°C) while charging, and the AirCool system is TÜV certified. Lower temperatures are generally easier on lithium-ion batteries over time.
Fitting it to your air vent
The mount clips onto a vent blade, so the vent decides whether it fits. Anker lists these limits:
- Hook adjustment range: 10 to 24mm.
- Compatible depth: 10 to 24mm.
- Blade thickness: 2 to 4mm.
- Blade spacing: 7.5 to 13mm.
Round vents and mesh grilles are among the designs shown as not compatible, and Anker notes that some vehicle makes are not compatible at all. A locking, adjustable clamp holds it on the blade. The base measures about 49 x 33mm and may partly cover the vent.
Angles and everyday use
The phone can be turned between portrait and landscape, and the viewing angle can be fine-tuned with ±32° of tilt. Landscape suits a wide map view, while portrait shows more of a route list.
Set the route before you set off, and follow local laws on handling a phone while driving.
What comes in the box
Everything needed to power it from a 12V socket is included:
- the Anker Prime wireless car charger;
- an Anker 60W car adapter with two ports;
- a 3.3 ft (1 m) USB-C to USB-C cable;
- a cord organiser and two cable holders;
- a welcome guide.
Anker lists a 24-month warranty. With two ports on the adapter, a second device can charge from the spare port.
Who it suits
It suits drivers who use their phone for navigation and want it charging in a fixed, visible spot, and those who often drive in warm weather, when cooling matters most.
What to check before you buy
- Your vent: measure blade thickness, spacing and depth against the listed ranges.
- Your phone: check whether it supports Qi2 at 25W, or whether it will charge at a lower speed.
- Your case: magnetic charging needs either no case or a magnet-compatible one.
- Power socket: confirm your car has a 12V socket where the adapter can sit.
- Cable routing: plan where the cable runs so it stays clear of controls.
