The VEVOR SX4 is a handheld borescope: a small camera on a flexible cable, paired with a screen, for looking into places you can't see directly. It is used for engines, walls, pipes, drains and other tight spaces. Its main distinction is a probe tip that bends in four directions.
Screen and image quality
VEVOR gives the SX4 a true 1080P HD lens and a 6-inch IPS screen. The brand compares this to older 720P units with 5-inch screens, saying it offers 4X sharper detail and 44% more viewing area. In general, higher resolution helps when judging small cracks, corrosion or weld seams, and IPS panels typically hold colour and brightness better from an angle, which is useful when you are working in awkward positions.
What 4-way articulation means
On a basic borescope, the cable is simply pushed in and the view follows wherever it points. With 4-way articulation, the tip can be steered remotely, so you can look up, down, left and right without twisting the cable or the handset. VEVOR says this removes blind spots and lets you switch between views quickly. Steering the tip is especially helpful in a cavity where the cable cannot be rotated, such as behind an engine component or inside a wall.
Probe length and size
The cable is 4.9 ft (about 1.5 m) long, flexible enough to follow bends. The camera head is 0.32 inches (about 8 mm) across, which VEVOR says lets it enter narrow spaces rigid scopes cannot. A small head fits through small holes, such as spark plug ports, though the listing does not state specific ports it fits. Check the diameter against the opening you have in mind.
Water and light
The camera is IP67-rated. In general, IP67 means dust-tight and able to survive temporary immersion in water, to a depth and time the maker specifies. VEVOR says it works in wet, submerged and oily environments and gives clear details in low light, supported by the built-in lights. It names automotive repair, mechanical work, drain and pipeline inspection as uses. Only the camera end carries the IP67 classification; the handset is not waterproof.
Battery
A 7000mAh battery is listed for 5 to 6 hours of continuous operation, enough for a full shift of inspections. Runtime depends on screen brightness and light level.
Who it suits
It suits mechanics, HVAC technicians, plumbers, building inspectors and keen DIYers who need to see inside things without taking them apart. It is a visual inspection tool; it does not repair anything.
What to check before you buy
- Reach: a 4.9 ft cable may be short for long pipe runs.
- Opening size: compare the 0.32-inch head with the smallest hole you need to enter.
- Environment: the IP67 classification covers the camera, not the handset.
- Recording: check the manual for photo, video and storage options if you need to keep images.
- Hazards: do not use it near live electrical parts, and follow the manual.
- Case and accessories: see what is included in the box.
