The VEVOR shower curb kit is a set of parts for building a tiled shower floor: a pre-sloped foam tray, a drain, waterproof membrane, two curbs and a trowel. It is aimed at renovators who want a ready-made base instead of building a mortar bed from scratch. Here is what is in it and what to plan for before starting.

What the kit contains

VEVOR lists these parts:

  • A shower tray made of EPS high-pressure foam board, 48 x 72 in (about 1.22 x 1.83 m), with a 4 in (10 cm) drain hole set in the middle.
  • A 4 in PVC central bonding flange and an auxiliary drainage device, with a 4 in stainless steel grate.
  • Two shower curbs, each 48 x 4.5 x 6 in (about 122 x 11 x 15 cm), made of XPS extruded board and designed to be cut to length.
  • Two rolls of HDPE waterproof membrane.
  • Pre-formed membrane pieces for four inside corners and two outside corners.
  • A square-toothed stainless steel trowel.

How the tray works

A shower floor has to slope toward the drain, or water pools. The tray comes with that slope built in, so installers do not have to form it. VEVOR says the surface has a grey, fluffy-textured waterproof membrane that helps mortar or thin-set bond when it is brushed on. The central drain means the slope runs toward the middle of the base.

Flange, grate and drain

The PVC flange connects the tray to the drain pipe, and the membrane is bonded to it so water that gets past the tile is directed into the drain. The listing says the grate has a gravity automatic seal, so the pipe is not left open. Drain pipe sizes and connection types vary, so match the flange to your plumbing.

Membrane rolls and corners

Two rolls are supplied. The small roll is 5 in x 32.8 ft (12.7 cm x 10 m), the kind of width used for sealing seams. The large roll is 3.3 ft x 32.8 ft (1 m x 10 m), for covering floors and walls. The pre-formed corners are meant to save cutting and folding at the points where leaks are most likely to start. Waterproofing details matter a lot in a shower, so follow the manual and local building code for overlaps, wall height and sealing.

The curbs and the trowel

The two XPS curbs form the low edge at the shower entrance. Because XPS board is easy to cut, they can be shortened to fit a different opening. The notched trowel leaves ridges in the mortar, which VEVOR says improves adhesion between the membrane and the wall or floor.

Who it suits

It suits DIY renovators and installers working on a shower of about 48 x 72 in. At 24.3 lb, the kit is light enough to carry in, but the tray is large, so check your doorways and stairs. It is not a finished shower: tile, adhesive, grout and sealant are separate.

What to check before you buy

  • Dimensions: measure the shower space and compare it with the 48 x 72 in tray; the tray cannot be resized the way the curbs can.
  • Drain position: confirm that a central drain suits your plumbing and subfloor.
  • Local code: check requirements for shower pans, waterproofing and curb height, and whether a permit or inspector is involved.
  • Subfloor: the base needs a flat, sound, suitable surface.
  • Other materials: you will need mortar or thin-set, tile, grout and sealant.
  • Plumbing: check that the drain connection matches your pipe, or consult a plumber.

The short version

  • A 48 x 72 in EPS shower tray with a built-in slope and central 4 in drain.
  • PVC flange and stainless steel grate, two XPS curbs, two membrane rolls, corners and a trowel.
  • Designed to be tiled over once the membrane is bonded.
  • Plan for local code, a flat subfloor and separate tiling materials.
