The VEVOR 145Amp MIG welder (model VV-MIG145) is a portable inverter welder that offers three processes in one case: MIG, MMA (stick) and lift TIG. It runs on household-voltage power and is aimed at home DIY, repairs and light fabrication. Here is what the specs mean in practice.
Three welding modes
- MIG: a wire electrode feeds continuously through the torch. It is generally the easiest process for beginners and works with flux-cored wire (no gas) or solid wire (with shielding gas).
- MMA (stick): uses coated electrodes and suits outdoor or rusty work. The listing reminds buyers that MMA mode needs a welding handle that is bought separately.
- Lift TIG: you touch the tungsten to the work and lift to start the arc, with no high-frequency start. TIG also needs a torch and shielding gas, which are not part of this package.
Output, thickness and duty cycle
The rated output current is 145 A, with a duty cycle of 30% at 40 °C. A duty cycle is how much of a ten-minute period the welder can run at full output before it needs to cool, so 30% means about three minutes of welding at full power. VEVOR gives a maximum welding thickness of 0.39 inch (10 mm). Thick sections in a single pass usually need more power than a 145 A machine offers, so treat that figure as an upper limit and check the manual.
Wire and feeding
The welder accepts 0.03 inch (0.8 mm) and 0.04 inch (1.0 mm) flux-core and solid wire. It takes 2.2 lb (1 kg) spools, and the wire feed speed ranges from 4.4 to 42.65 feet per minute (2 to 13 m/min). Faster wire feed generally goes with higher current, so adjusting the two together is part of tuning a weld.
Controls and display
A digital display, function-switching buttons and a current and voltage knob make up the interface. VEVOR says even beginners can use it easily. In general, a new welder still needs practice on scrap metal and a read of the manual.
Electrical needs
Input voltage is AC 110 V ±10% at 50/60 Hz. The MIG input current is 42 ±5 A, and the MMA input is 50 ±5 A. That is a heavy load for a standard household circuit, so check the circuit's amperage limit and any extension cord. Follow local electrical codes and the manual, and have a qualified electrician advise if you are unsure.
Cooling and portability
An air channel design improves heat dissipation of the power and control circuits, which VEVOR says extends the life of the machine. The welder measures about 17.7 x 12.2 x 9.7 inches (45 x 31 x 25 cm), has a carry handle, and the specification sheet gives a weight of 11.7 lb (5.31 kg). The package contains the welder, a 5.58 ft (1.7 m) MIG torch, a 6.56 ft (2 m) ground clamp and a manual.
Who it suits
It suits home workshops, farm and outdoor repairs, and hobby projects on carbon steel or stainless steel. Heavy structural work or frequent long welds call for a machine with a higher duty cycle.
What to check before you buy
- Power supply: confirm your circuit can supply the input current.
- Gas or no gas: decide between flux-core wire and solid wire with gas, and check that you have the regulator or other equipment you need.
- MMA and TIG extras: buy an electrode holder, and for TIG a torch and gas, separately.
- Material thickness: compare your typical metal thickness with the rated limits.
- Safety gear: a welding helmet, gloves, protective clothing and good ventilation are essential.
- Consumables: contact tips and wire spools wear out, so check they are easy to get.
