The VEVOR 140A Stick Welder is a compact inverter welder that handles stick (ARC, also called MMA) welding and Lift TIG, and it adds a plastic-repair function. At 8 lb (about 3.6 kg) it is small enough to carry between jobs. Here is what its specs mean.

Dual voltage and output

The welder accepts 110V or 220V and converts automatically between them. VEVOR gives the maximum output as 110A on 110V and 140A on 220V. In general, a higher input voltage allows more current from the same machine, which means thicker material and larger electrodes. On a 110V household circuit, expect the lower ceiling.

VEVOR lists performance on E6010, E6011, E6013, E7014 and E7018 electrodes, for stainless steel, low-carbon steel and other metals. Electrode choice depends on the material, the position you are welding in and the power source, so check the electrode maker's guidance and the manual.

Inverter design

An IGBT inverter converts mains power at high frequency, which is why these machines are far smaller and lighter than older transformer welders. The listing's size is 12.2 x 7.9 x 8.3 in (31 x 20 x 21 cm). A digital display shows the settings.

Stick and Lift TIG

Stick welding uses a coated electrode that melts to form the weld and its own shielding. Lift TIG starts the arc by touching the tungsten electrode to the work and lifting it away, with no high-frequency starter. TIG welding generally needs a torch, shielding gas and a filler rod, so check what the package includes and what you would need to buy separately.

Arc start helpers

Three features are meant to make life easier, particularly for newer welders:

  • Hot Start gives extra current at the start to make striking the arc easier.
  • Arc Force adjusts current when the arc gets very short, helping to give smoother welding and deeper penetration.
  • Anti-Stick reduces current if the electrode sticks, so it is easier to free.

Plastic welding function

VEVOR says a switch brings the machine into a plastic-repair mode, which heats up in a few seconds and works with a plastic welding gun and staples. This suits repairs on items such as bumpers and housings. Check the manual for what the kit includes and which plastics it suits.

Protection features

The listing includes VRD (voltage reduction device) electric shock protection, plus overheat, overcurrent and overload protection. A portable handle completes the design, and VEVOR says it can be used indoors or outdoors. Welding always requires proper protective gear, including a welding helmet, gloves and non-flammable clothing, good ventilation, and a clear work area. Follow the manual and local rules.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, farm and workshop repairs, light fabrication and mobile jobs where a portable machine is handy. It is not meant for heavy industrial work with thick plate.

What to check before you buy

  • Power supply: check your outlet and breaker, as the full 140A output needs 220V.
  • Material thickness: match the amperage to the metals you plan to weld.
  • Electrodes and accessories: confirm what is included, such as the electrode holder and ground clamp, and what is sold separately.
  • TIG needs: gas, a torch and filler are typically separate.
  • Safety gear: helmet, gloves and ventilation are essential.
  • Duty cycle: check the manual for how long it can weld before resting.

The short version

  • A portable 2-in-1 ARC / Lift TIG inverter welder, 8 lb.
  • Automatic 110/220V conversion: up to 110A on 110V and 140A on 220V.
  • Hot Start, Arc Force and Anti-Stick for easier arc control.
  • VRD plus overheat, overcurrent and overload protection.
  • A plastic-repair function using a welding gun and staples.
