The VEVOR NMDP52-G55-70-12 is a 12V DC diaphragm water pump with a built-in pressure switch. It is designed to supply pressurised water to a sprayer, a hose or a small irrigation line from a 12-volt power source, starting and stopping by itself as the tap is opened and closed. This page explains what its listed figures mean and what to confirm before choosing it.
What a diaphragm pump does
A diaphragm pump moves water with a flexible membrane that flexes back and forth, pushing water through one-way valves. Compared with many simple impeller pumps, this design typically builds pressure more steadily and can often prime itself, meaning it can pull water up from below the pump rather than needing to be flooded first. VEVOR rates this model to self-prime up to 6 feet (about 1.8 m).
Flow, pressure and power
VEVOR lists an open flow rate of 5.5 GPM (about 21 litres a minute) and a rated pressure of 70 PSI (about 4.8 bar). "Open flow" means the flow with nothing restricting the outlet, so real flow through a nozzle or a long hose will usually be lower. The motor is listed at 216W and 17A.
At 12 volts, that is a substantial current draw. The battery, wiring and fuse all need to be sized for it, and the supply should be able to deliver it steadily.
The automatic pressure switch
The pressure switch lets the pump run on demand. When the outlet is opened and pressure drops, the pump starts. When it is closed and pressure reaches the set point, the pump stops. The factory setting is 70 PSI, and the switch is adjustable from 40 to 100 PSI: clockwise raises the pressure and counterclockwise lowers it, according to the listing. VEVOR also says the pump tolerates dry running for short periods, though running any pump without water for long is best avoided.
Where it is meant to be used
VEVOR points to car washing, agricultural irrigation, sprayers and moving water over a distance in a courtyard or garden. It also says the pump is not suitable for RVs. The port is a 1/2-inch MNPT (male national pipe taper) thread, so hoses and fittings need to match that size or use adapters.
One point matters for placement: the brand states the pump is not waterproof and is not suitable for outdoor use. It needs a dry, sheltered spot, such as a shed, enclosure or vehicle compartment, with the water hoses run to where they are needed.
Noise, vibration and protection
VEVOR describes the pump as quiet in operation and says overload protection helps it cope with constant use, including with hot water. Its note on vibration is practical: if the pump shakes or gets loud, increase the water flow. Diaphragm pumps in general are louder than people expect, so mounting them on a firm base with some vibration damping is typically worthwhile. The listing also mentions FCC certification and says sealing tape is included to help reduce leaks at the threads.
What to check before you buy
- Power supply: confirm your 12V source, wiring and fuse can handle the listed 17A draw.
- Fittings: the port is 1/2-inch MNPT, so check your hoses and connectors.
- Location: it is not waterproof, so plan a dry, protected mounting spot.
- Suction lift: the 6-foot self-priming figure is a maximum, so keep the pump as close to the water as practical.
- Water type: the listing covers water uses, so check the manual before pumping anything else.
- Size: it measures about 8.6 x 5.8 x 5.6 inches and weighs 6.2 lb, so check the space and mounting.
The short version
- A 12V DC self-priming diaphragm pump with a 5.5 GPM open flow and 216W motor.
- Built-in pressure switch set to 70 PSI, adjustable from 40 to 100 PSI.
- 1/2-inch MNPT port; aimed at car washing, irrigation and sprayers, not RVs.
- Not waterproof, so it needs indoor or sheltered mounting.
- Needs a 12V supply that can deliver the rated current.
