The ARCCAPTAIN MIG205MP is a multiprocess welder that combines several welding methods and a plasma cutter in one 46.3 lb machine. It runs on 120V or 240V power and adds smartphone app control. This page explains the processes it offers, what the amperage figures mean and what to check before putting one in a home or farm workshop.

Nine modes in one machine

ARCCAPTAIN lists nine modes: gas MIG, gasless (flux-core) MIG, cutting, DC HF TIG, DC lift TIG, MMA (stick), clean, spot welding, and spool gun aluminium welding. The spool gun, which feeds soft aluminium wire without kinking, must be bought separately. In general, MIG is quick to learn and suits steel fabrication, TIG gives finer control on thin material, stick is robust outdoors, and plasma cutting slices metal without a separate tool. Every process has its own consumables, gases and skills, so a multiprocess machine saves space more than it removes the learning.

Current ranges

The brand gives these figures:

  • MIG: 30-205A
  • DC TIG and MMA: 20-205A
  • Clean: 20-40A
  • Cut: 20-50A

The rated duty cycle is 60%, meaning the machine is designed to weld for 6 of every 10 minutes at its rated output before cooling. Plasma cutting thickness is listed as 10 mm (3/8 inch) for quality cuts and 18 mm (about 2/3 inch) maximum.

Dual voltage

The welder runs on 120V or 240V. ARCCAPTAIN notes you should not switch between them while the screen is still on, and should wait until it turns off. Lower voltage limits the available output, so check the manual for what each supply allows and make sure the circuit is rated for the draw.

App control and memory

ARCCAPTAIN says its iControl app, within a 10-metre range, allows parameter adjustment, real-time monitoring and status detection. Unlimited presets can be saved and named, and the app includes an FAQ section for troubleshooting.

Display and synergic setting

A large LED display shows welding parameters. The synergic (SYN) function matches current and voltage to the chosen metal type and electrode size, which the brand says helps beginners. For experienced welders, ARCCAPTAIN lists extra controls such as MIG inductance and burn-back, DC TIG pulse frequency, start and finish current, and MMA hot start and arc force. It supports DC lift and HF TIG torches and foot pedals.

Protection features

Listed protections include dual cooling fans, VRD (voltage reduction device) function, fault alarms and protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, overload and overheating. ARCCAPTAIN lists two years of service. Welding carries real hazards, including arc radiation, fumes, heat and electric shock, so follow the manual, use proper protective gear and ventilate the work area.

Who it suits

It suits home DIYers, garage fabricators and farm or maintenance users who want several processes in one machine. Dedicated production welding operations may prefer separate machines.

What to check before you buy

  • Power supply: confirm your outlet or circuit is suitable for 120V or 240V use.
  • Aluminium: a spool gun is needed and sold separately.
  • Consumables: check the gas, wire, electrodes and plasma parts you will need.
  • Torches and pedal: confirm TIG torch and foot pedal compatibility.
  • Weight and space: 46.3 lb and about 17.3 x 7.9 x 12.7 inches.
  • Skill and safety: learn each process and wear the right protection.

The short version

  • A 9-in-1 multiprocess welder with MIG, TIG, stick, clean, spot, plasma cutting and spool gun modes.
  • Up to 205A for MIG, TIG and stick; 60% duty cycle.
  • 120V/240V dual voltage and app control with saved presets.
  • VRD and overcurrent, overvoltage, overload and overheating protection.
  • Spool gun not included; 46.3 lb.
