The WD Green SN350 is a 2TB internal solid state drive from Western Digital (model WDS200T3G0C) in the M.2 2280 format. It is aimed at everyday computing: it can replace or add to the storage in a laptop or desktop that has a free NVMe slot. Here is what its specs mean and what to confirm before fitting one.

What NVMe, M.2 and Gen3 mean

M.2 2280 describes the physical shape: a slim stick about 22 mm wide and 80 mm long, which plugs straight into a slot on the motherboard. This drive measures roughly 3.1 x 0.9 inches. NVMe is the protocol it uses to talk to the computer, designed for flash storage and far more efficient than the older SATA interface. PCIe Gen3 is the generation of the connection. Gen3 is slower than Gen4 or Gen5 drives, but it is perfectly adequate for everyday tasks and works in newer slots too, since PCIe is backward compatible.

Speed: what "up to 3,200 MB/s" means

Western Digital rates the drive at up to 3,200 MB/s. "Up to" is a peak, usually a sequential read figure, and real-world performance depends on the file sizes, the rest of the system and how full the drive is. Western Digital says the drive can work up to four times faster than SATA drives, which fits the general picture: SATA SSDs top out around 550 MB/s because of the interface itself. In daily use, the differences show up in boot time, application loading and large file copies.

QLC memory and what it means

The listing notes QLC, which stores four bits per memory cell. QLC makes large capacities practical, and it is well suited to reading files, general office work and media storage. QLC drives typically write more slowly than other flash types once any fast cache fills up, so they suit everyday use better than sustained heavy writing, such as constant large video exports.

No moving parts

Because an SSD has no spinning platters, Western Digital describes it as shock-resistant, which helps with accidental bumps in a laptop bag. That is a general advantage over hard drives, though it does not replace regular backups.

Monitoring and warranty

The downloadable Western Digital SSD Dashboard lets you check the health and usage of the drive. The drive comes with a 3-year limited warranty from the brand.

Who it suits

It suits people upgrading an older laptop or desktop that still uses a hard disk or small SSD, students and home users who want quick startup and enough room for files, and anyone adding a second drive for storage. Heavy gamers, editors and workstation users who move large files all day may want to look at faster PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 drives.

What to check before you buy

  • Slot type: confirm your device has an M.2 slot that supports NVMe, not SATA-only M.2, and that 2280 length fits.
  • Cloning or fresh install: decide whether to clone your old drive or install the operating system again; cloning software and a USB enclosure can help.
  • Slot sharing: on some motherboards, an M.2 slot shares bandwidth with SATA ports; check the manual.
  • Heat: the listing mentions no heatsink; some laptops and boards provide one, so check your device.
  • Backups: keep a copy of important files before swapping any drive.
  • Console and handheld support: if you plan to use it in something other than a PC, check the maker's storage guidance.

The short version

  • A 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD with a PCIe Gen3 interface, model WDS200T3G0C.
  • Rated by Western Digital at up to 3,200 MB/s; QLC memory.
  • No moving parts, SSD Dashboard software for monitoring.
  • 3-year limited warranty.
  • Check that your device has a compatible NVMe slot before buying.
