The Veise RZ07 is a smart deadbolt in satin nickel that can be opened seven ways: fingerprint, app, web portal, fob, code, shared eKey and a mechanical key. Its large user capacity makes it aimed at rentals, offices and busy households as much as ordinary homes. This overview explains the access methods, the management tools and the measurements to check.

The seven ways in

Veise lists these access methods:

  • fingerprint;
  • smartphone app;
  • web portal;
  • fobs;
  • keypad code;
  • eKey sharing;
  • mechanical key.

Having a mechanical key as a fallback is reassuring for any electronic lock. The mix lets different people use what suits them: a fingerprint for residents, a code for a guest, a fob for staff.

Capacity: 50 prints, 250 codes, 1,000 fobs

The specification gives a user capacity of 50 fingerprints, 250 user codes and 1,000 fobs. Those numbers are well above what a single family needs. They make more sense for a short-term rental, an apartment building, an office or a small hotel-style setting, which Veise names among its intended uses. The lock limits wrong code entries to five.

App and web portal

Through the app and a website management system, Veise says you can generate eKeys remotely, grant access, manage users and view records. The app and web portal are described as usable indefinitely. You can create one-time, permanent, scheduled and recurring codes for house sitters and guests. Scheduled codes that expire on their own are especially useful for hosts changing over guests.

A note from the listing: do not change the master password on the keypad before pairing the lock in the app. You may need to touch the keypad to wake it first, and if the app cannot find the lock, a reset is suggested.

Locking features

The lock offers auto-lock, one-touch locking, privacy mode, passage mode and a low-battery alert. Passage mode typically keeps the door unlocked for a period, which suits an office during opening hours. The touchscreen keypad is described as anti-peeping, meaning it is designed to make the code harder for onlookers to read.

Smart-home connection

With the separate Veise G2 gateway, the lock can be reached remotely and controlled by voice with Alexa and Google Home. The gateway also lets you view live access logs and check the lock's status. Without it, remote features are not available, so factor it in if you want them.

Fit and installation

The listing gives these measurements:

  • Backset: 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches (60 or 70 mm).
  • Door prep hole: 2-1/8 inches (54 mm).
  • Door thickness: 1-3/8 to 2 inches (35 to 50 mm).
  • Edge hole: 1 inch (25 mm).
  • Frame hole: at least 1 inch (25 mm).

Four AA batteries are required and are not included. The lock is rated IP54, which generally means protection against dust and splashing water. Veise says it fits most standard US doors, left- or right-handed, and installs with a screwdriver. Support is at least a one-year warranty, weekday phone support from 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific time and 24/7 email.

Who it suits

It suits hosts, landlords, small offices and larger households that need many users or want to manage access remotely. For a home with two or three occupants, a simpler lock may be enough.

What to check before you buy

  • Door measurements: compare the sizes above with your door.
  • Batteries: buy four AA batteries; they are not included.
  • Gateway: remote use and voice control need the separate G2 gateway.
  • Pairing steps: follow the order of setup in the manual.
  • Certification: the listing does not state a security grade; check the packaging if you need one.
  • Rules: follow local building and fire codes for exit doors.
