The TCL 43S455 is a 43-inch television from the company's 4-Series. It combines a 4K Ultra HD LED panel with the Roku TV smart platform, so streaming apps, broadcast TV and connected devices all sit on one home screen. It is a size that suits bedrooms, kitchens, dens and smaller living rooms.
What 4K Ultra HD means
TCL says the screen has four times the resolution of Full HD, which means 3840 x 2160 pixels in a typical 4K panel. More pixels allow finer detail, especially on a larger screen or when you sit close. On a 43-inch TV, the difference is most visible with native 4K content from streaming services or discs.
Not all material is 4K, so the TV also uses 4K upscaling. TCL says this enhances HD shows, movies and sports to near Ultra HD resolution. Upscaling can make lower-resolution content look sharper, but it can't add detail that was never in the picture.
High dynamic range
The TV supports HDR (high dynamic range). TCL says this delivers brighter, more accurate colours for a lifelike picture. HDR content carries more information about brightness and colour, and a compatible TV can show brighter highlights and darker shadows in the same scene. The result depends on the content you watch and the panel's own brightness.
The Roku TV home screen
The TV runs Roku's smart platform. Broadcast TV, streaming channels and gaming consoles appear on a customizable home screen, so you don't have to switch inputs or work through complicated menus. The remote has about half the number of buttons of a traditional TV remote and includes one-touch shortcuts to popular channels.
TCL says the platform offers thousands of streaming channels, including 250+ live TV channels, Roku Originals, kids' programming and more. Availability of channels and content varies by region and can change over time.
Sound bar pairing
The listing says it works with Alto sound bars featuring "Roku TV Ready". This is intended to simplify setup between the TV and a compatible sound bar. If you want to add one, check the sound bar's own compatibility notes.
Size and placement
The set measures about 37.7 inches wide and 22.0 inches high including its stand, with a depth of about 3.1 inches, and weighs 13.7 lb. Its controller type is listed as touch control, and the aspect ratio is 16:9. The light weight makes it easy to move or mount, and a wall mount would need to match the TV's mounting pattern, which you should check in the manual.
Who it suits
It suits anyone who wants a compact 4K television with a simple smart interface, such as a secondary room, a student room, or a first smart TV.
What to check before you buy
- Space: measure the stand or wall area against the dimensions above.
- Viewing distance: a 43-inch screen suits closer seating more than a large living room.
- Inputs: count the HDMI inputs you need for consoles, a sound bar and other devices, and check the specifications.
- Internet: smart features need a network connection, and the manual covers setup and account requirements.
- Mounting: check the wall-mount pattern and any stand-leg placement.
- Sound: TV speakers vary, so consider whether you want a sound bar.
