The SOUYIE SM-7 is a rugged-style smartwatch with a metal body, an AMOLED screen and Bluetooth calling. It comes with both a steel and a silicone strap, so it can be dressed up for the office or used for sport. The brand describes it as a military-style, waterproof watch with limits on water use.

Display

The screen is 1.43 inches with a resolution of 466 x 466. AMOLED panels light each pixel individually, which generally gives deep blacks and vivid colour. SOUYIE says anti-glare technology helps outdoor visibility and that the screen can stay always on. An always-on display uses more power, so battery life varies with that setting. There are 15 built-in watch faces, 100+ more via the app, and custom photos.

Calls and notifications

With a built-in microphone and speaker, the watch can make, answer and reject calls, view the call log and add contacts. SOUYIE says it shows notifications from SMS and apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. It pairs with phones over Bluetooth, and the listing states compatibility with iOS 9.0 and Android 4.4 or newer. Calls and alerts rely on the phone being nearby and the right permissions being on.

Activity and sleep tracking

The watch tracks steps, calories and distance, and offers heart rate and sleep-stage tracking, with summaries in the Dafit app. It lists more than 100 sports modes, including running, cycling, basketball and climbing, with real-time data such as speed and distance. Watch-based sensors are generally for casual fitness insight rather than precise measurement.

Everyday tools

SOUYIE also lists a calculator, weather, alarm, stopwatch, music and camera remote control, and a find-my-phone feature.

Battery and water resistance

A 400mAh battery charges in about 2 hours through the magnetic charger. SOUYIE quotes 7 to 10 days of use, or up to 30 days on standby. Actual life depends on the always-on screen, calls and sports tracking. The watch is described as suitable for handwashing and jogging in the rain, and not for swimming, diving, showering or saunas.

What's in the box

The watch, a steel strap, a silicone strap, a magnetic charger, a metal strap adjustment tool and a user manual. SOUYIE says the strap can be changed in about a minute.

Who it suits

It suits people who want a sturdy-looking watch with phone alerts, call handling and sports tracking in one device, and who like being able to switch between a metal and sport strap.

What to check before you buy

  • Phone compatibility: confirm your phone's operating system and Bluetooth calling support.
  • Wrist fit: check the case size and strap length against your wrist.
  • Water use: follow the water-resistance limits in the manual.
  • App: the Dafit app is needed for setup and watch faces.
  • Charger: it uses a magnetic charger, so keep it safe.
