The soundcore Work by Anker is a coin-sized voice recorder that captures meetings, interviews and classes, then turns them into transcripts and summaries in the soundcore app. It has 64 GB of storage, weighs 0.35 oz (about 10 g) and can be worn on a collar, around the neck or on the back of a phone. Here is what its features mean and what to check before relying on it for work.
Small enough to wear
The recorder is about the size of a coin and can be worn three ways: clipped to a collar, hung on the included necklace chain, or attached to a phone with the included magnetic ring. Wearing it close to you generally helps it pick up your own voice and the people near you, without leaving a recorder on the table.
Controls are simple: press once to record, and double-tap to highlight a key moment as it happens, so it's easier to find later.
Transcription and speaker identification
The soundcore app turns recordings into text. In Anker's own testing, transcription reaches up to 97% accuracy, with speaker identification, which labels who said what. It supports more than 150 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Japanese.
Accuracy figures like this come from the brand's own test conditions. In everyday use, results typically depend on background noise, how far away each speaker is, accents and people talking over one another.
Summaries in the app and on the web
After a meeting, the soundcore app for iOS and Android creates a structured summary with key points, decisions and action items. On the web portal, you can ask Anka, soundcore's AI assistant, questions about any recording, for example to pull out the decisions from a long meeting.
Setup starts in the app: you log in first, then connect the recorder.
Privacy and encryption
By default, recordings and transcriptions are encrypted with AES-256, a widely used encryption standard, and kept on the device. Audio files cannot be exported over USB, so someone who finds a lost recorder can't simply plug it in and copy the files.
Transcription does need the cloud: soundcore says audio sent for transcription is processed temporarily and deleted once the transcript is delivered, when Cloud Storage is turned off. The soundcore app is SOC 2 Type I certified. SOC 2 is an independent audit of how a service handles customer data, and Type I looks at whether those controls are properly designed at a given point in time.
Phones, charging and what's in the box
The recorder is MFi-certified for iPhone, meaning it went through the official certification programme for iPhone accessories. It also works with Android phones. It isn't supported on iPhone 7 and earlier models.
In the box are the recorder, a USB-C cable, the necklace chain and the magnetic ring. Any USB-C cable can charge it.
Who it suits
It suits sales reps, consultants and other professionals, and anyone who records meetings, classes or interviews and would rather read a summary than take notes by hand. The wearable design suits people who move between meetings, calls and commutes during the day.
What to check before you buy
- Your phone: confirm it's an Android phone or an iPhone newer than the iPhone 7, and that the soundcore app supports it.
- Transcription allowance: check how much transcription time is included and what the app's optional plans add.
- Battery life: check the listed recording time against the length of your typical day.
- Consent: rules on recording conversations vary by place and workplace; tell people when you record, and check the rules that apply to you.
- Data: read soundcore's privacy settings, especially whether Cloud Storage is on or off.
