The Philips Brilliance 279P1 is a 27-inch frameless monitor with a 4K UHD IPS panel and a built-in USB-C dock. Its main idea is a single cable from laptop to screen: picture, data and charging all travel over USB-C. It is aimed at desks where a laptop is the main computer.
4K resolution on 27 inches
The panel is 3840 x 2160 at a 16:9 aspect ratio. At 27 inches, that gives a sharp image with fine text, which helps with spreadsheets, CAD, photo and video work. Philips lists 350 cd/m² brightness, a 178° viewing angle both horizontally and vertically, and 122% sRGB coverage in the title. IPS panels generally keep colours consistent when you view them from the side.
One-cable USB-C docking
The USB-C input carries video and USB 3.2 Gen 2 data, and it delivers up to 65 watts of power to a compatible laptop or phone. That removes a separate charger. Philips says you can connect a keyboard, mouse and an RJ-45 Ethernet cable to the monitor's docking station and have them reach the laptop through the same cable. The laptop's USB-C port must support video output (DisplayPort over USB-C) and 65W should cover what your laptop needs.
SmartErgo base
The stand offers height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments, with cable management built in. It is also VESA compatible, so the screen can go on a wall or monitor arm. Pivoting to portrait suits reading long documents or code.
PowerSensor and LightSensor
PowerSensor is a built-in presence sensor that Philips says detects whether you are at the desk and dims the screen when you step away to save power. The Hideaway version folds out of the way when monitors are tiled side by side. LightSensor adjusts brightness to the room lighting. Flicker-free and LowBlue modes are listed as well.
Speakers and connections
Two built-in 3W stereo speakers handle video calls and casual listening. The box includes an HDMI cable, a DisplayPort cable, a USB-C to C/A Y cable, a power cable and documentation.
Size and weight
It measures about 14.4 x 24.1 x 2.1 inches with the panel and weighs 16.6 lb (about 7.5 kg), so check the desk depth for the stand's footprint.
Who it suits
It suits laptop users who want a single docking cable, people working with detailed images or spreadsheets, and shared desks where a dock reduces clutter.
What to check before you buy
- Laptop port: confirm it supports USB-C video output and USB-C charging, and compare 65W with the power your laptop needs.
- Scaling: 4K at 27 inches usually needs display scaling for comfortable text size.
- Desk space: measure for the stand, or check VESA mounting.
- Audio: 3W speakers are basic; use a headset or speakers if sound matters.
- Warranty: the brand mentions a 4-year advance replacement; read the terms.
