The monTEK TM1009C-L is a ceiling mount for flat-screen TVs from 37 to 86 inches. Instead of fixing the screen to a wall, it hangs from the ceiling on a central pole, which suits rooms where wall space is taken, awkward or not suitable for drilling.

How the mount moves

monTEK says the mount swivels through 360°, so the screen can be turned to face whichever part of the room people are in. It tilts by up to 25°, which helps reduce reflections, and the TV can be levelled by ±2° after installation.

Height is adjustable too. The distance from the ceiling to the centre of the TV plate runs from 20.7 to 30.6 inches (roughly 53 to 78 cm). Lower is not always better: the screen should end up near eye level for the seating position, so think about ceiling height before choosing.

Cable routing

The central tube is hollow, and the listing says cables can be hidden inside it. Routing the power and HDMI leads through the pole generally looks tidier than cables dangling beside it. Check that your cables, and any plugs that need to pass through, fit the tube.

Where a ceiling mount makes sense

monTEK lists commercial uses such as restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, shops, airports and malls, and home uses including gazebos, church basements, attics, covered patios, porches and fireplaces. The brand points to two cases in particular: avoiding drilling into stone above a fireplace, and fixing to a sloped attic ceiling.

Outdoor spaces bring their own considerations. A TV needs to be rated for the conditions it will face, so check the TV's own manual as well as the mount's.

Size, weight and compatibility

The mount holds up to 121 lb (about 55 kg) and fits most flat-screen TVs from 37 to 86 inches with VESA patterns from 100 x 100 mm to 600 x 400 mm. VESA is the standard arrangement of four screw holes on the back of a TV, given in millimetres. The mount itself weighs 7.4 lb.

The listing says it can be fixed to wood studs, concrete and brick, and adds a clear warning not to install it on drywall alone. That applies even more to a ceiling, since the whole load hangs from the fixings. Joists and structural timbers, not the plasterboard or drywall, should carry it, so follow the manual and local building codes.

Installation

monTEK quotes about 15 minutes, helped by printed instructions and a video guide, and says customer support is available for setup questions. Real time depends on the ceiling, finding the joists and whether a second person helps hold the TV.

Who it suits

It suits shops and cafes, home gyms, garages, attics with sloped ceilings, and living spaces where a wall mount would be in the wrong place. It is less convenient for TVs you'll want to move often or reach frequently, because ports can be hard to get to above head height.

What to check before you buy

  • TV weight and VESA pattern: confirm both against 121 lb and 100 x 100 to 600 x 400 mm.
  • Ceiling structure: locate joists or concrete and confirm they can carry the load.
  • Ceiling height and drop: check the 20.7-30.6 inch range gives a sensible screen height.
  • Cable and port access: plan how you'll reach and plug in devices.
  • Rooms with movement: in busy or low spaces, make sure the screen can't be knocked.

The short version

  • A ceiling TV mount for 37-86 inch flat screens up to 121 lb.
  • 360° swivel, up to 25° tilt and ±2° levelling.
  • Drop of 20.7-30.6 inches from ceiling to the TV plate centre, with cables routed inside the central tube.
  • VESA 100 x 100 to 600 x 400 mm; fixes to wood, concrete or brick, not drywall alone.
  • Listed installation time of about 15 minutes.
