The HP V22v G5 is a 21.45-inch Full HD desktop monitor aimed at everyday work, study and general computing. It gives a laptop or desktop a larger, sharper screen than most built-in displays, and it keeps the design simple so it fits on a small desk. Here is what its main specs mean in practice.
What Full HD on 21.45 inches looks like
Full HD (FHD) means 1920 x 1080 pixels. On a screen of about 21.45 inches measured diagonally, that pixel count typically produces clear text and images at normal desk distance, because the pixels are packed fairly tightly. HP describes the panel as giving front-of-screen views that suit assignments and projects, which is a fair summary of the target use: documents, spreadsheets, web pages, video calls and video playback.
At this size, a Full HD screen is usually comfortable to use at 100% scaling, so you don't need to enlarge text to read it. Higher resolutions generally make more sense on larger panels.
FreeSync and the 75Hz refresh rate
Refresh rate is how many times per second the picture is redrawn. Many basic monitors run at 60Hz; this one is rated at 75Hz, which HP says gives fluid motion. In general, a higher rate makes scrolling and moving objects look a little smoother.
AMD FreeSync is a technology that lets the monitor match its refresh rate to the frames your graphics hardware is producing. It typically reduces tearing, the visible split lines that can appear when the two are out of step. It works with compatible graphics hardware, so check your own setup. The monitor also supports HDCP over HDMI, the copy-protection standard that some protected content requires.
Stand, cable management and controls
The stand is slim and offers adjustable tilt, so you can angle the screen up or down. HP doesn't list height or swivel adjustment, so if you need to raise the screen to eye level, you may want a monitor arm or a riser. HP also lists neat cable management, meaning a way to route cables so they stay out of sight behind the display.
Settings are changed with a joypad-style button on the monitor, which HP calls intuitive. You can also manage them from the screen with HP Display Center, a software utility for the computer.
Environmental claims
HP states that the monitor is ENERGY STAR certified and EPEAT Gold rated, and that it contains 85% recycled plastics sourced solely from recycled IT equipment. It also says the monitor ships in 100% recyclable packaging. Those are HP's figures, and the EPEAT registration can vary by region.
Size and weight
The listed dimensions with the stand are 19.8 inches wide, 7.1 inches deep and 15.2 inches high (about 50 x 18 x 39 cm), and it weighs 6.2 lb (about 2.8 kg). That makes it light enough to move around easily and shallow enough for a narrow desk.
Who it suits
It is a sensible fit for a home office, a student desk, a second screen beside a laptop or a shared family computer. People who need very fast gaming speeds, colour-critical photo work or a height-adjustable stand should compare the specs of other models against their own needs.
What to check before you buy
- Which video input your computer has. Confirm that it has an output that matches the ports on this monitor, and that you have the right cable.
- Your desk and eye height. With tilt-only adjustment, the screen sits at a fixed height.
- Graphics compatibility if you want FreeSync, and whether your computer can output 75Hz.
- Whether you need built-in speakers, USB ports or a webcam, and check the full specification for each.
- The mounting options if you plan to use a wall mount or arm.
The short version
