The fanxiang S880E is a 4TB internal solid state drive in the M.2 2280 format, using a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and the NVMe protocol. It is meant for desktops, laptops and all-in-one PCs, and fanxiang also lists it as compatible with the PS5. With 4TB of space, it suits large game libraries and big media projects.
What PCIe 4.0 and NVMe mean
NVMe is a protocol designed for flash storage, and PCIe 4.0 x4 describes the connection to the system: four lanes of the fourth-generation PCIe standard. In general, this gives far higher throughput than SATA drives. fanxiang rates the S880E at sequential read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s and writes up to 6,300 MB/s, and says it supports NVMe 2.0. Sequential figures are best-case numbers; everyday loads of small files are usually slower.
Gaming and the PS5
The brand says the drive is compatible with the PS5 and with DirectStorage, a Windows technology that lets games load data from fast SSDs more directly. Console storage upgrades usually require a PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 drive, and many consoles also want a heatsink, so check Sony's current requirements before installing.
Work and creative use
fanxiang points to 3D NAND flash memory for quick boot times, fast application loading and file handling, and mentions video editors and other professionals. Large, high-bitrate video files are where a high-capacity, fast drive typically helps most.
Heat control
Fast SSDs get warm and may slow themselves down (throttle) when hot. fanxiang says the drive's label contains a graphite-coated copper foil layer and an aluminium foil layer to help lower temperature, and that read speeds stay close to peak even in demanding games. Many motherboards also supply their own heatsinks, which can help further.
Size and support
The drive measures 3.1 x 0.9 x 0.1 inches (about 80 x 22 x 2.3 mm), the standard 2280 size. fanxiang lists a 5-year after-sales service and lifetime technical support.
What to check before you buy
- Slot: confirm your device has a free M.2 2280 slot that supports NVMe over PCIe.
- PCIe generation: PCIe 4.0 drives generally also work in 3.0 slots, but at lower speeds.
- Heatsink clearance: check whether your laptop, motherboard or console needs or has space for a heatsink.
- Console rules: if using it with a PS5, check the maker's current requirements.
- Backup: move or back up existing data before cloning or reinstalling.
- Warranty terms: read what the 5-year service covers.
