The eufy Security E21 Add-On Camera is a 4K pan-and-tilt camera for the eufy E21 baby monitor system. It adds a second view, which helps with twins or a second child's room, and it can run from its own battery when there's no outlet nearby. Here is what its features mean in practice.
What an add-on camera does
An add-on camera extends a monitor system rather than replacing it. This one joins the E21 system: with two cameras, both feeds can appear side by side on one split screen, so you can keep an eye on two cots or two rooms at once.
At home, eufy says the system works with or without Wi-Fi. When you're away, at work or travelling, the app lets you check in, and you can share access with up to five family members, which is useful when grandparents or a partner help with bedtime.
4K, pan, tilt and zoom
The camera records in 4K UHD, which has roughly four times as many pixels as 1080p. More pixels typically mean more detail survives when you zoom in on a small area, such as a face across the room.
The lens pans 330° and tilts 60°, and it zooms up to 8x, so one camera placed in a corner can cover most of a nursery. Pan-and-tilt cameras are typically aimed remotely, rather than by moving the camera itself. Night vision keeps a picture available after the lights go out.
Battery or plug-in power
A 5,000mAh battery lets the camera run unplugged, so you can move it between rooms during the day, or take it to a cabin, a hotel or a relative's house. When it stays in one place, it can simply stay plugged in. eufy doesn't give a battery runtime in the product details, so the manual is the place to look for how long it lasts between charges.
Quieter audio and round-the-clock recording
Active noise reduction cuts background noise by 20 dB. Decibels are logarithmic: as a rough guide, every 10 dB drop sounds about half as loud, so 20 dB takes a steady hum, such as a fan or an air purifier, well into the background.
The app also offers 24/7 recording, so you can look back at the night rather than relying on live viewing alone.
Privacy and encryption
A physical switch turns Wi-Fi off, leaving a private local connection. With Wi-Fi off, access through the app from outside the home typically stops until you switch it back on, so it suits times when you're at home anyway.
eufy lists RSA-1024 and AES-128 encryption, and each recording is protected with its own key. AES-128 is a widely used encryption standard for stored and transmitted data, while RSA is commonly used to exchange keys securely between devices.
Who it suits
It suits families who already use the eufy E21 monitor and want a second camera, whether for twins, a second room or trips away from home. The battery makes it easy to move, and the split screen keeps two views together.
What to check before you buy
- Your system: this is an add-on for the eufy E21 baby monitor system; confirm it works with the setup you have.
- Battery life: check the manual for runtime and charging, and plan where it will charge.
- Placement: follow eufy's manual for mounting and placement, and keep the camera and any cable well out of a child's reach.
- Wi-Fi: viewing from outside the home needs your home Wi-Fi and the app.
- Sharing: up to five family members can be given access.
