The ELEGOO Saturn 3 is an MSLA resin 3D printer built around a 10-inch 12K monochrome LCD. Resin printers cure liquid photopolymer layer by layer, which is why they are often chosen for small, finely detailed objects such as miniatures, models and prototypes. The Saturn 3 offers a larger build volume than many desktop resin machines while keeping a fine pixel size.
What 12K resolution means
The screen has a resolution of 11520 x 5120 pixels, and ELEGOO gives an XY resolution of 19 x 24 microns. Each pixel on the screen is one tiny point of light shining through to the resin, so smaller pixels typically give sharper edges and finer surface detail. A monochrome LCD also lets more UV light through than a colour one, which generally means shorter exposure times and longer screen life.
Build size
The build volume is 8.62 x 4.84 x 9.84 inches (about 219 x 123 x 250 mm). That allows larger single pieces or several smaller parts on one plate. ELEGOO describes the build plate as laser-carved for good adhesion while still letting finished prints detach easily. The printer itself measures 10.7 x 12.0 x 22.3 inches (about 27 x 30 x 57 cm), so allow desk space plus room to open the cover.
Light source
The printer uses a COB LED lamp with a Fresnel collimating lens. It emits at 405 nm, the wavelength most common for consumer resins, with a light angle of only 5 degrees. A narrow angle means the light travels more directly through the screen, which ELEGOO says gives uniform, precise exposure across the plate and sharper edges.
Software and file formats
The printer works with Voxeldance Tango software, which offers static and dynamic printing modes. It uses the open GOO slice file format, and ELEGOO says third-party slicers such as CHITUBOX and Lychee Slicer can also be used. Check that your preferred slicer has a profile for this model.
What to check before you buy
- Resin handling: uncured resin needs gloves, good ventilation and careful disposal. Follow the resin maker's guidance.
- Washing and curing: prints typically need to be rinsed and UV-cured afterwards, so check whether you have, or need, separate equipment.
- Space: allow room for the printer, bottles, wash station and a ventilated area.
- Part size: compare your intended models against the build volume.
- Resin compatibility: confirm your resin suits 405 nm printers.
- What's in the box: check the accessories and spare parts included, such as FEP film.
