The ELEGOO Neptune 3 Pro is an FDM (filament) 3D printer with a 225 x 225 x 280mm build volume, a direct-drive extruder and automatic bed leveling. It arrives with its main parts pre-assembled and a tool kit, so it suits people who want to start printing without building a machine from a pile of parts.

Build size

The print volume is 225 x 225 x 280mm (8.85 x 8.85 x 11 inches). ELEGOO calls this a mainstream size that meets the needs of most users. It is enough for things like brackets, enclosures, tool holders and figurines, while larger objects can be split into parts and joined.

Dual-gear direct extruder

The extruder is made of SUS303 stainless steel with a 3:1 reduction ratio and dual gears. ELEGOO says it delivers stronger extrusion force and smoother filament feeding, with fewer clogs and under-extrusion events than a Bowden setup, in which the extruder sits away from the nozzle and pushes filament through a tube. Direct extrusion also usually makes flexible filaments easier to handle. The listing names PLA, TPU, PETG and ABS as compatible, and a 250W heated bed that reaches 100°C helps with materials that need a warm surface.

Hotend and cooling

The nozzle kit uses a TC4 titanium alloy throat pipe, a flat aluminium alloy heat sink and a brass nozzle. A widened heat sink and a close-fitting fan cool the throat pipe, which ELEGOO says reduces the chance of clogging.

Auto bed leveling

A non-contact sensor scans 36 points (a 6x6 grid) on the bed, and the printer adjusts the Z height to compensate for unevenness. ELEGOO notes this only applies to metal printing platforms. The bed is a PEI magnetic sheet, and finished models can be released by flexing the steel sheet.

Stability and noise

The Z axis uses two synchronised lead screws with dual-motor drive, which ELEGOO says avoids deviation from a single driven side. The X and Y axes ride on POM V-guide wheels, which the brand calls stable, quiet and wear-resistant. An STM32 motherboard with silent stepper drivers is quoted at 47-48dB in one place and 50dB in another, similar to a quiet conversation. A hand-twist knob adjusts XY belt tension.

Resume and filament detection

If filament runs out or breaks, the printer pauses and sounds an alarm until you load a new spool. It can also resume a print after a power outage, which is helpful for long jobs.

Screen and size

A removable capacitive touch screen handles the controls. The listing gives the packed dimensions as 23 x 9 x 19 inches and the weight as 22 lb (about 10 kg).

Who it suits

It suits beginners and hobbyists who want a medium-sized printer with automatic leveling, plus those who plan to try TPU as well as PLA. People who print for hours at a time may value the resume features.

What to check before you buy

  • Build volume: compare 225 x 225 x 280mm with the parts you plan to print.
  • Materials: check the nozzle and bed temperatures for any special filament.
  • Bed type: auto leveling works on the metal platform, so confirm what you are using.
  • Workspace: it needs a flat, stable surface and a ventilated spot.
  • Slicer software: check the file formats and the slicers the manual recommends.

The short version

  • An FDM 3D printer with a 225 x 225 x 280mm build volume.
  • Dual-gear direct extruder and a titanium alloy throat pipe.
  • 36-point non-contact auto leveling and a PEI magnetic bed.
  • Dual Z lead screws and silent drivers.
  • Filament-runout pause, power-loss resume and a removable touch screen.
