The ELEGOO Mars 5 Ultra is an MSLA resin 3D printer with a 9K monochrome LCD, a tilting resin tank, a built-in camera and WiFi. It is aimed at hobbyists and makers who want fine detail, such as miniatures, figures and small parts, with less set-up than older resin printers.

How MSLA resin printing works

MSLA (masked stereolithography) printers shine ultraviolet light through an LCD mask onto liquid resin in a tank. The light cures each layer, and the build plate lifts the model up layer by layer. It generally gives finer detail than filament printers, though prints need washing and curing afterwards, and liquid resin needs careful handling with gloves and ventilation as the resin maker advises.

9K screen and print size

ELEGOO lists a 7-inch monochrome 9K screen at 8520 x 4320 pixels, which gives an XY resolution of 18 x 18 µm. Smaller pixels mean finer surface detail. The screen has a 9H hardness tempered protector, and the COB light source is rated at 92% light uniformity, which supports even curing across the plate. The build volume is 6.04 x 3.06 x 6.49 inches.

Tilt release and speed

Traditional printers pull the cured layer straight up from the release film. ELEGOO's Tilt Release tilts the tank instead, which it says saves Z-axis travel time and lets printing reach up to 150 mm/h. Fast and slow modes can be switched, and a resin calibration function helps set parameters for a given resin.

Smart mechanical sensor and auto-leveling

A built-in mechanical sensor and spring let the printer calibrate and level in one click. ELEGOO says it also detects problems such as low resin, foreign objects, a release film that needs replacing and an overheated light board. Printing can resume after a power interruption, according to the listing.

AI camera and time-lapse

A built-in camera lets you watch the print remotely. ELEGOO says its AI picks up issues like an empty build plate or model warping, and time-lapse recording is supported for sharing prints.

WiFi and cluster printing

Files can be sent over WiFi without a USB drive, at 6 to 10 Mbps, on 2.4G and 5G networks. Several printers on the same network can print at the same time, and firmware can be updated over the air.

Design details

Upgrades include a one-touch build plate lock, replaceable tank lock screws, dual pour spouts and a laser-engraved platform. A capacitive touchscreen runs a vertical interface in 12 languages.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists and small studios who want high-detail prints and remote monitoring. Beginners can use the one-click setup, but resin printing still involves cleanup and safe handling.

What to check before you buy

  • Build volume: compare 6.04 x 3.06 x 6.49 inches with the size of your models.
  • Workspace: you need ventilation and a surface that tolerates resin.
  • Supplies: resin, gloves, wash and cure equipment, and replacement release film are separate.
  • Network: check your WiFi supports the connection, and that slicer software is compatible.
  • Resin handling: follow the resin maker's safety information.

The short version

  • A 9K MSLA resin printer with an 18 x 18 µm XY resolution.
  • Tilt Release for printing up to 150 mm/h.
  • Mechanical sensor, one-click calibration and AI camera.
  • WiFi file transfer and multi-printer cluster printing.
  • 6.04 x 3.06 x 6.49 inch build volume and a touchscreen in 12 languages.
