The Brother P-touch PT-D610BT is a desktop label maker built for workplaces that label a lot: shelves, cables, bins, lockers, assets and ID badges. It prints on Brother TZe tape up to about 1 inch (24 mm) wide, and you can design labels on the machine itself, on a computer or from a phone.
Three ways to create a label
You can type directly on the built-in QWERTY keyboard and preview the result on the screen. You can also use the free P-touch Editor software on a computer, connected by USB or Bluetooth. A third route is the Brother iPrint&Label app on an Android or iOS device over Bluetooth.
Brother says several people can send jobs to the same printer from their own computers or devices, which matters in a shared office or warehouse.
The screen and keyboard
The display shows 20 characters across two lines in colour, so you can check a label before printing instead of wasting tape on a typo. One-touch formatting keys handle common changes. The printer can produce up to seven lines of text on one label.
Design options and templates
Brother lists 17 fonts, 17 font styles, 160 frames and 900 symbols. For work that follows a pattern, there are 175 preset templates covering asset management, date and time tracking and similar tasks. The built-in memory stores up to 90 frequently used labels for quick reprinting.
On a computer, P-touch Editor adds drawing tools and lets you import images and create barcodes or QR codes. Brother says the high-resolution print produces sharp barcodes and logos, which matters if the labels will be scanned.
Cutting and printing speed
An automatic cutter trims each label, which saves time on big batches. Brother describes the printer as faster for high-volume jobs than basic models. Labels are thermal transfer prints on laminated TZe tape, which Brother says stays stuck on items such as bins and patio furniture. Exact durability depends on the tape type and surface, so check the tape's own specifications.
Size and what's included
The unit measures about 10.2 x 4.8 x 12.6 inches (26 x 12 x 32 cm) and weighs about 2.1 lb (0.95 kg). The listing says an AC adapter and USB cable are included. Brother also mentions an optional VP version with a carry case and a sample tape, so check which version you are getting. Tape cassettes are separate and are consumables you will need to replace.
Who it suits
It suits small businesses, retail stores, offices, workshops, storerooms and warehouses that tag inventory, cables and equipment. It also fits anyone who wants tidy, readable labels at home and is happy to use a larger machine than a pocket labeler.
What to check before you buy
- Tape width: the printer takes TZe tape up to about 1 inch (24 mm). Confirm the widths and colours you need are made in TZe.
- Devices: check your computer or phone operating system works with the P-touch Editor software or the app.
- Power: the listing mentions an AC adapter; check whether you need a wall outlet at the place of use.
- Ongoing supplies: tape cassettes run out, so plan for replacements.
- Version: confirm whether the box includes the carry case and sample tape, or only the standard items.
- Space: it is a desktop unit, not a handheld one.
